At least the standard cataloged barrel lengths anyway.

For a few years now I've been working on collecting all of the standard barrel length pre model 27's that were available in both blue and nickel.
I recently found a nice 6" blue gun and that completed the set of five standard blued barrel lengths S&W offered.

I'll be looking for the five nickel barrel lengths next.
So far I have a 3.5", but I know the other four will be a challenge.

If it wasn't for my gun A.D.D. and an addiction to Pre War and Transition 38-44 Heavy Duties, I may have had them all by now ;)

Rick:

What a great collection of beautifully preserved 357s. Great photos as well! I especially love the short one and the long one!!! Can't wait to see the nickel side of the collection (if/when you get them assembled). If I recall correctly, our 3.5" nickel pre-27s are also adjacent SNs...:)

Thanks a ton for sharing those beauties,

Beautiful examples. I see your 6.5 example has the Patridge sight. You do know that about half of the revolvers in this barrel length had ramp sights?

Not tryin' to cause no trouble...

Holy Cow, that's one fine collection of super fine guns.

Well done.

Why would that observation cause trouble? I certainly don't take offense :)

It lettered as being shipped that way

It's seems like a long barrel length to have a ramp sight. Do you know the break down of ramp vs Patridge on the 6" guns?

Congratulations on a great collection. The sequential serial numbered 5" is icing on the cake.

Thank you Richard.

Yes, our 3.5" nickel guns are sequentially numbered.
I'm not sure if you saw the thread I posted, but I had mine lettered and it went to Evaluators

No specific answer - but here's what I've seen. Almost all of the 6" pre-27s that I recall seeing have the Patridge front sight. I have always wondered why the 6.5"ers seem to have a relatively even split with the Patridge and Baughman front sights. On the 8.375" pre-27 357's, I have seen a 30% Baughman / 70% Patridge split, with most of the nickel ones that I have seen sporting the Baughman. The 3.5", 4" and 5" pre-27s almost all have had the Baughman ramp.

Top notch collection! Can't wait to see the nickel set when you find 'em!

Very, very nice. I have that line up as well but only have boxes for two of mine. I've been on the hunt for the nickel ones for a while now, just have a 6.5" so far. Good luck!

Wow, super nice collection with a focused goal in mind. Can't
wait to see the nickel part of your collection. I hope to find a
nice 5 inch pre-27 in blue some day. It's on my "bucket" list. :D
