Hello friends
i have seen these grips for sale, they look like yellowed ivory, i can't buy them, because shipping through customs lines is too dangerous for any parcel checking, i thought that keep an eye out for these will be appropriate

I have looking for some pics of micarta grips and checking better the pics, probably they are a grossolane example of grips in this material also the color is too flat, external and inside is the same. Also the realization is absolutely poor

Marcello, my gut feeling is also micarta as it's almost unheard of to find target style grips in anything other than wood or synthetic......Ben

Occasionally you will run into a pair.:D

Found these at a local gun show a couple years ago.

How's the fit?

The pair I found shrunk so much that they are going to need to be reworked to fit a K-frame.

Fit is perfect at the top but tight at bottom as they were carved originally for a post war N frame. I sold these once then bought them back a year or so later as I really regretted selling them the first time.

I do soak all my ivory-bone grips in mineral oil for two weeks, once a year. I have a tupperware bowl half full with a lid that I do it in. Then I wrap them in toilet paper and store them in a box. Hope that is helpful to prevent shrinkage.

I am hoping one day to find someone to put prewar medallions on them. Not many working with ivory anymore.

Your set really looks like they might have been done by the same guy. The angles are very similar. Did they shrink evenly?

I always wondered if they also shrink thickness wise and will not fit the backstrap correctly where they normally touch.

These target stocks made of elephant ivory were checkered in a coke bottle pattern by Keith Brown. This pair, and a smooth pair, were made in the mid-60s by a company in Texas. Click on the photo for a better look.

Beautiful set Bill!!

But I still think your magna set with the eagle and gold medallions are the best set I have ever laid eyes on ! They are worthy of any ivory thread.

Do you use any preventative maintenance on your ivory?
