This subject has been beat up a bit, I know, but I would like your opinions (and pics if ya got 'em) on various IWB holsters with waist/belt clips. I currently use an Uncle Mikes that's kind of a valour/nylon material. It's inexpensive @ $11.00 so when it wears out, I buy another.

However, I'm looking at leather IWB holsters and like the looks of the Bell Charter Oak models. What say you?

I've actually got a Don Hume clip on IWB for a J frame. Works pretty well for the money, but the leather is a little thick. I use it frequently, and have gotten used to it. I really prefer snaps, but that was all I could get at the time.

I've got to say that my favorite IWB for a J-frame has been one made by Ryan Grizzle Leather. Before this holster I was less than pleased with most of my holsters. I absolutely love this holster and how comfortably it carries my 340sc.

Good luck on your search!

While I tend to prefer the more specialized makers, I must admit that the Galco Ultimate Second Amendment works well with J-frames. It's very trim and the horsehide seems pretty near indestructible. I've ordered a Kramer sheepskin IWB for the K-frame snub and will post my impressions when it arrives.

I seem to remember reading that you can order a FIST kydex holster for K frames. I have two of these ultra thin holsters (G27 and G23) that I use for appendix carry. Both work well and are very thin.

Maybe you could call FIST and see if they will make one for a K frame snub? Good luck and let us know how it works out. I have a M64 2" that I could use one for carry.

FIST, INC.

Sorry, I just realized you asked for leather. Duh. That's what I get for being in a hurry. No matter, FIST makes the same holster in leather.

You will be well served with a Bell Charter Oak product. Much experience, much expertise, and great service by all accounts.

I've got a Hume 715M for my 3" Model 65. It's a decent holster, as are my other 715Ms for my other guns. Ayoob praised the security of the clip in the "Gun Digest Book of Concealed Carry", with which I concur completely. Ironically, it's every bit as secure as the clip that was on my crappy Bianchi IWB which was 10x as aggressive and EXTREMELY difficult to put on and take off, even with my pants off!

Thank you for those kind remarks. We do strive to assist our clients in the selection process, having long realized that not everyone has the same level of experience when it comes to choosing the holster best suited to their needs. We can say with complete confidence that we have used and continue to personally use the very same designs we offer, but that is no substitute for a clients individual experience. So information we gather from less experienced clients goes a long way in helping them and others, select the right holster. We encourage less experienced clients to ask questions. On another note, I would add that if we can't provide you with the holster best suited to your needs and we know of another maker who can, we never hesitate to refer a client to them. I have heard nothing but good things about Ray and Lobo Gunleather and as anyone can plainly see, he is a gentleman.

Blackhawk

My favorite thus far is by Blackhawk. The only other ones I've tried were a old style suede out Bianchi with shiny clip, and a Galco. I prefer the clip to the loops.

I would get one with a renforced top. I makes reholstering easy and not a pain in the ass. For what it's worth I have IWB holsters from Side Guard .

I've looked at the Bell site and like what I see. That Blackhawk interests me, as well as Lobo's gear! I like the idea of a reinforced top too.

I don't like reinforced tops...they make the holster thicker and for IWB, I want thin as possible...that said, this horsehide Delfatti doesn't collapse and I could reholster it with one hand if I had too...but for me, that is not an issue.

I recently bought a Side Guard Minimal Clip for the J. I really liked the holster, but did not like the standard clip. The owner graciously agreed to take it back and make me one with a "security" clip - which is just like this: Mr Softy

I have that clip on some Highnoon holsters - and they're great. I love the Highnoon "Mr. Softy" for my Glocks, but the J Frame model seemed like it was slightly too small and did not work well.

I have one of Lefty's holsters and couldn't be more pleased.
Good people to deal with and the holster came before the stated due-date. What more could one ask.

Bell Charter Oak probably offers the largest selection of IWB styles for revolvers and autos, than any other custom maker. For that matter, probably more IWB styles than any maker, custom or otherwise. IWB holsters are hands down, the most popular CCW style and I'm sure that any successful custom maker will attest to that.

Having stated this, I also feel compelled to remind us all that the type or "style" that will work for one fellow, may not be the ideal for another guy or gal. Most often, our customers know well what they want and order a particular model. But others are sometimes unsure. New or first time carriers or folks who have never used an IWB should consider several factors. Felt comfort in relationship to body proportions and performance are very closely related to the size of the weapon your using. Nearly everyone can get away with small frame revolvers or small autos. From there, it can get a bit more complicated. I expect most of us understand this if you've spent hours of agony with an oversized weapon that was never intended to be concealed, holstered in a poor design. Been there, done that.

In any case, we realized long ago that in order to satisfy the individual needs of our clients we needed to offer a large variety of styles. Many custom makers offer one or two basic styles, largely because they either lack the design imagination or simply are not innovative.

I have used a pair of Alessi Hard Shell Talons, one for 2" j-frame and one for 3" k-frame, for 15 years or so now and been very pleased with them. They have ridden many miles and still work great.
