Picked up a used Model 60-15 in nice condition. Went to shoot it and the only thing holding down the rear sight was the small screw in the shaft in front of the rear sight blade.

OK, elevation screw is intact but nothing for it to screw into. Does this take a rear sight stud, on a J frame? How is the rear part of the rear sight held in place? Obviously, I need to order some parts but which ones.

Can't find a good schematic for this model of Smith. Need some help! Thanks!

Schematics that I have googled for this gun are drawings of k or N frames.

Harder than I thought to find an adjustable sight J-frame diagram, and the newer 'typical' revolver manuals not much help.

Diagram and parts list from 1977 so don't know how much they'll help but it should be #5653.

snw19: Thanks for your help. Have the part identified it appears screwed into a receptacle that has a 4 way hash mark on the bottom. This hashmark corresponds to a similar mark on the frame where the sight bottoms out. I don't understand how all this works, as where is the spring tension that keeps the sight at it's proper height? I'm used to the older K and N frame models.
