J Frame Square Butt Target Grips

Back in the day of the blued backside washer would the grip screw have been of a different (smaller) size than the later bright steel colored ones? I've run into this on a set of checkered walnut (I think) J SB targets.

Yes, the older J-frame stocks use a smaller screw than the later ones.
