Japanese surrender video - MacArthur speaks

Very cool video, thanks for sharing. That was an incredible time in history, so many people committed, and sacrificing, to make it a better world. I'm of a different generation, but I still can't bring myself to buying a Japanese car...

I was 7 years old at the time. Still a moving thing to watch. If only Gen. MacArthur's final wish for everlasting peace could have come true.

If you ever get a chance to visit the MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk, VA, it is quite a place. They have the planks where the General stood on the USS Missouri for the surrender, along all of his artifacts and quite a museum collection.

About 10-12 years ago the US Missouri was being moved from Seattle to Hawaii for permanent display. It put into port at the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria.

I was one of the fortunate to go aboard for a final stateside public tour.

While the ship is very large, the actual signing area was amazingly small compared to what I had expected....barely larger than a picnic table plus a limited area to stand.

Surprised also to hear the final flourish commenting on "United Nations" action....perhaps narrator meant something else.
