John Wayne -- A Must Watch 4 July

You're right, these should be....

A "good old days thread"...

The more things change the more they stay the same. The "good old days" had their share of problems just as today does. I think there is very little difference between the 60-70's and today.

Its a big country with lots of opinions and people feel free to express them. That's good and that's the same. Remember antiwar marches, Kent state where the National guard shot college kids for demonstrating. People were prosecuted for "wearing the flag" on clothing, now you can get the flag printed on t-shirts, napkins, paper plates and probably even underwear.

If you want everybody to think and march to the same drum, think of 1933 Germany. They knew what to say and what to think. Democracy is a messy form of government. We all have opinions and get to share them - that's good.

The "good old days" are good, but so is today. It's just different, and in 20 years your kids will be remembering this time as the "good old days".

These are the good old days and I'm enjoying myself more than I ever did. And yes, we had terrible problems, every night on the news was something awful. But is it ok if I miss:

Kids walking, even at night without getting shot, raped or kidnapped. And there were plenty of places for them to play.

Cars without pollution controls and plenty of cheap gas.

Charging way too much for everything hadn't become an art form.

Going into a store, finding what I want and buying it right there. No 'We don't stock that' or 'We can order it for you, have it here in three days."

Actually enjoying most movies you went to see.

Better music.

Everybody not being entitled to a position.

Companies were not commodities to be traded and run into the ground to be traded again.

Sports weren't big business.

Telephones that were just....telephones. People had them in their houses because that's where most people were most of the time.

Having places to hunt and shoot that weren't encroaching on somebody else's property.

You could work on car engines without a special degree for THAT engine.

Schools were for learning.

Of course I could make a long list of things that are better today, but life was simpler. Maybe that's a job for another thread.

I haven't had to......

This sums it up for me:
QqEYtnR.jpg

I haven't had to walk down the road to drink from water with cows wallowing, pooping and peeing in.

I've never been truly hungry without being able to be satisfied.

I didn't have to travel many miles to get to a doctor or hospital.

I could go on, but this place has been very good to me.

I wish I could post the version that a local radio talk show host/black Vietnam/ Reagan conservative Vet Bob Jones on his show this morning. Bob Jones played Kate Smith's God Bless America--which is the best rendition of the song I ever heard.

Can't figure out why everyone considers Wayne a hero. When WWII cane around he stayed home with the women and kids. Said he was to old. Folks like Jimmy Stewart, Clark Gable, and David Niven same age didn't wimp out. I prefer my Hero's to be real ones not make believe.

^^Another Duke denier.^^^^^^ Ive posted the reasons why Duke never served though HE DID TRY enlisting more than once!!!!!!!!!!"""" Lets see-here in short-are a few reasons. 1) Bad ear drum, 2 he was already considered as being too old to serve but also already had a large family and THEY needed someone who could take care of them 3) the govt said he'd be of MORE USE TO THEM AND US (as inspirational to OUR home moral))--to stay acting making movies that inspired us-like: They Were Expendable, Back To Bataan etc.

Lotsa acters made war movies who didnt-OR couldnt serve.
