For those who wonder how bad it is in Joplin let me tell you...Worse than the TV images depict. Death toll is bound to get worse...1500 are missing...Now of course all of those are not casualties but can you imagine the task of finding every body, living or dead....Unbelievable tragedy. Mother Nature is a mean lady sometimes.......Any prayers will be welcome...One thing about Missouri help is forthcoming from all over the state.......Tornado Alley has been busy this year.

Yep it is bad there...I have friends I haven't been able to get ahold of but as far as we know they are alright.

My Dad's side of the family lived there since the 20's. In the 50's we visited Joplin and Grandmas farm just outside every year. I haven't been there in 40 yrs.. Lost track of any family. Joplin is surrounded by a lot of small towns. Oronogo, Webb City, Neosho, to name a couple. They can't of fared well. The farm had a storm celler. I'll wager it saved someone. At least I hope so. I also hope we see the same support for these folks as some of our foreign aid.

I work Fraud / Security for a bank in the St Louis area. We have 4 branches in Joplin. Two were OK. One had the roof taken off. The other was demolished. There is a picture of the demolished branch. The only thing standing is the concrete structure that housed the vault. A very strong picture. No employees were lost but three lost their homes.

That said, there are is still a large number of folks unaccounted for. I fear that they will be finding bodies miles away in fields and trees. The bad thing is that hunters find alot of those types of bodies and there is not a hunting season for awhile. Maybe a few farmers wil find some.

I hope I'm wrong.

You got that right we will see how well a conservative city in a conservative state does

The city was concerned that volunteers would become looters, so they had a "check-in" system where volunteers registered with the city before going in to help with the clean-up. Apparently, the "check-in" system was overwhelmed today, and they have dropped the requirement. Volunteers are pouring in from surrounding states. I know of several truck loads of water and diapers coming from Tulsa. I think the response of conservatives in a conservative area has been pretty good. ;) The President is going to come see Joplin on Sunday, which should throw a real wrench into the works. I doubt they'll let conservatives with chain saws anywhere near him. :D

Man, they AREN'T in Kansas anymore! Some close relatives live near there, and I got some basically eyewitness reports of what this latest one has done to that area. People missing, houses and property destroyed...whatever else is that bad or worse--it's happening, or has happened. (Or, WILL...?)
Makes me wonder if this will get the attention this nation has given to foreign lands? Japan took a massive beating, granted, but these Missouri folks weren't exactly ignored by Mother Nature. With prayers and financial support this area may get itself back to near what it was before this most recent disaster.
It's funny, cuz I read about people fleeing to their storm shelters. I grew up in Oregon, and I can't imagine anyone here even building one of those.Thank Heavens for the fact that such disasters simply don't happen here. (Fingers crossed.)

Think it's bad now, the Westboro Baptists are gonna show up to picket Paddy O'Bama & rejoice at the Lord's fury on MO.

I'm not gonna post the link to the flier. It's pretty offensive. You can find it if ya want.

Maybe those ol' redneck boys with the chainsaws will get some work after all. ;)
