It was pretty cold to start out but by 10 I peeled off the hoodie. New RSO, missing 2 or 3 limbs and wheelchair bound, great attitude, "yessir" and "yessir." Shot my ration of 5 ten rd mags Ruger MKII 3 times and the "MAPP" Philippine copy of CZ 75. Both ran a total of 200 rds without a hitch or bobble although I run them "wet." The 3 guys who were there before me were cheerful, the closest fellow swept up my brass on his way out. Had the place to myself and wanted to ask the RSO for his "story" but this being 1st meeting, another time. Definitely "service connected" as 2 other "amputees" working there have shared that. I shot well for an old goat, the impacts were where I wanted them, if'n I did my part. As I was leaving folks started to arrive with that "eagerness" we have in anticipation.
The gratitude overwhelmed me on the road out. Deer, hogs, turkeys were enjoying the sun. Even the buzzards were soaring, hoping.....
Folks passing waved, shooters are like that.
I glanced at my "dashboard display" on the 3 miles back to the HiWay and just a "pin" showing me moving West on a green background, no road marking (just "Rattlesnake Slough" to the South). So glad to be able to drop "off the map" even if only for a couple hours. Joe

I hear you farmer . The club I belong to is out in the country also . it's nice to get out there and just check out and shoot . There's a couple of lakes and a slough , so you can usually see a gator out there . We were out there Tuesday , a bit cooler than this morning . We got set up and a couple of sand hill cranes decided to interfere on the 100yd range . Surprised gunfire didn't bother them at all , kept shooting way away from them trying to get them to move . Guessing they were enjoying the sunshine , it was 48 when we got there .
