Just as all those CSI shows should be labeled science fiction, Judge Judy and similar shows should be labeled fantasy.
Judge Wapner was all right. In fact, quite good. For those that don't know, he was Chief Judge in Los Angeles (125 judges to supervise then). He heard the Lee Marvin palimony case.
I see too many new attorneys who believe a court is conducted as one might see it on Law & Order or one of these small claims shows. Real small claims is a lot less hot-tempered. Also, most small claims judges are overworked and underpaid.
My own brother was in court representing a client; the other party on the stand. My brother's turn to question the opposing party. My brother's client whispered, "Ask him this question". (The question need not be repeated here.)
My brother said, "I can't ask him that. The judge would throw us both in jail".
My brother's client shot back, "Just say, 'Withdrawn!'"
My brother went on to bring the case to a satisfactory conclusion, but his client is still mad that my brother wouldn't ask the obviously improper question.
