I have worried over this for weeks... don't usually buy used S&W's, but that was the only way to get a target-type SS .22 WMR. I'd seen 648's - just couldn't afford them - didn't care for the full lug, either. I finally saw this J-frame 4" 651-1... decent price - literally like new - 1997+ production. Thought about it for a bit... weeks... nearly too long! I was at the lgs when he unlocked the door this AM - it was out of the safe and into the case - at a better price - a check (Hey, it's the first of the month!), which took longer to write than the approval to purchase did - and I was headed to the door - with a new goodie and a couple of boxes of MaxiMags, which I may have to finance in the future - expensive!

Yeah, the speedloader is for a 17/18 or 6-shot 617 - .22LR. Not to worry - I checked the usual sources - no HKS #51-J speedloaders. Then I tried a common site more noted for books/e-readers - they had them - $8.37/ea - three of them ordered - $25.11 > $25 so free shipping! I back-ordered a 60 Pro grip for it several weeks ago, too. It's been a great day... may shoot it Monday. Had to share my good fortune!

No turn line - no carbon or lead anywhere - just a hint of a blast line on the topstrap over the b/c gap. Looks pretty much new to me... but I'll rectify that by Monday!

Nice catch! I had a 63, 22 LR. Don't like the new ones with the worm hole in it but like the 1/2 shroud barrels. May have to get another old one and and new barrel to install.

Looking good. You could also use some 22 WRF ammo in it if you want lower blast & can settle for less fps. Look it up if not familiar.

Very nice! You did well. Looks new. I've been looking for a 651 for a long time! I'll keep looking but I'm happy for you. Betting you will like it a lot. The 22 magnum is loud but it packs a lot more punch than a 22lr even in a 4" bbl. Hope you will post a range report.

It doesn't look new any more... it sent most of a box of 40gr JHP MaxiMags dowrange yesterday. No recoil - but, boy, is it loud! It was close enough to hit coincident POI/POA at 12-15yd without rear sight adjustment. I was smiling like a Cheshire cat - very happy. It's DA pull is as smooth as my now year old 3" 63, but not as light. I'll just have to shoot some to help break it in. The OEM grips are 'okay', but the 60 Pro grips, like my 3" 63 and 632 Pro sport now, are far more comfortable. I have them on backorder from S&W. Somewhere in the mail, I also have some HKS #51-J speedloaders 'on the way'. Now all I need is affordable ammo!

I really did do well here.

Well sounds like it shoots as nice as it looks. You may have read this attached article by John Taffin but if not here it is with regard to J frames including the 651. I would say my two grail guns are the 651 and the 631, but if I had to pick one it would be the 651. Congratulations on a great find.
