Picked it up today. Have not fired it yet.
It is serial no. GTU 44XX. No blue springs. Extractor seems tight against the bolt body and seems to angle out to the middle of the bolt. Not sure what else to look for. Might get it out tomorrow and see what it does. Will report back. I am excited I know that much. Put the MBUS on it, an MOE pistol grip, rail covers and a Primary Arms Md03 T-1 clone with quick release riser on it. I hope it works as good as it looks!

Have a red mark on the back? and is ammo recomendation listed on page 9?Also thats the first time i saw a serial # start with a 'G'; It must be very new.good luck

Congrats on the new toy and welcome to the disorder

Congrats! These rifles rock. You'll love it.
Now, go shoot that sucker!

It sure is fun to bring home a new 15-22... even more fun to pop a Fed 550 pack. I'll be interested to hear how a 'GTU' performs.

You know, you are right, the s.n. is DTU44XX. It is not a GTU prefix. Thanks for catching that. No ammo recommendation on page 9 of the manual. I think mine will have to go back. Oh well.

Maybe, maybe not... You will know when you take it to the range. If it has to go back, just know that the turn around time isn't bad at all.

Congrats on the purchase!

I have a DTU and have fired LOTS and LOTS of Federals through it and not one misfire.

That is good to know, and Brett, you make a good point too. I have a LOT of American Eagle hollowpoints so I will give them a try first. Then I may try some CCI Blazer, and some Remington target standard velocity.
Thought a pic might be in order. Here it is with my GSG5.

That's funny.... cuz I wasn't trying to catch a mistake. It's just that I hadn't seen that series yet and figured (hoped) it was a new 15-22 series/spec update.

Try using Fed Bulk Pack. As long as your rifle ejects the spent cases (and there is a easy and quick DIY video here if not) you may have no problems other than some mag snags. If you start experimenting with different ammo (other than CCI and Fed)... you may have much greater odds of problems.

Well, I got out to the club today and fired the gun. Initially I was worried, VERY worried. I fired two shots to begin the sight-in process. After the first shot the trigger did not reset all the way, I had to push forward on it. The second shot went as expected. On the third shot the gun wen BUURP! Three shots. One trigger pull. NOT good. I figured I would give it another chance. New gun and all, could have been some kind of parts settling down issue. Well, I am happy to report that I fired another 400 rounds over the course of 4 hours without further incident. I used three magazines and I fired Federal American Eagle 38-gr. hollowpoints and Armscor Precision 36-gr. hollowpoints. I had a really good time with the gun, got the red dot sighted in at 50 and got my hold over doped at 100. I got a couple of the magazine hangups where the round catches in the front of the feed lips but those cleared easily. I had a couple failures to chamber. That was it. A successful first time out at the range for this gun. Here is a link to a little video from today.

The one thing I DO NOT like is the trigger. It is unforgiveably awful. I will have to buy a match AR trigger because this is just not going to cut it.

Mine had the red mark on the manual and the ammo list on page 9 but its still on its way to S&W many FTE and FTF. But i am still happy with the rifle and S&W does stand behind it i called on Wednesday morning and the return label was in my mail box on Thursday. The serial number starts with DTX.
