Just Ordered an M&P Sport II and I'm Cool (New Member)

If I were you I'd ask for my testicles back for Father's Day........ As long as you're not dipping into the rent/food money to buy it, I should think that after 18 years of "doing the right thing" you ought to be able to go out and buy a firearm without having to run around worrying like a mouse what the wife thinks. TELL HER you bought an AR and be done with it man.
Full disclosure: I've been married but once and then for 33 years and counting.... She buys her sh....er stuff and I buy mine.

It's OK to the other poster in my situation. I have been buying whatever I want for 22 years, and she mentioned that to me when she said NO initially. But, when you have a young daughter, and THAT was the reason she was concerned (Scared), you have to be more understanding as it was more about HER perception of her safety, and less with her being the BOSS and putting her foot down.

Of course, in my situation I ALREADY bought TWO guns before I asked because I'm "The King", but I wanted to keep the peace and pave the way to getting her to give me the OK, which I did.

After she said NO on the gun, I told her, fix me something to eat, and be quick about it too. I want something HOT, and I want it NOW!

Well, at least that is what I was thinking, in my head! :D

I highly recommend The Liberty Safelert to anyone who wants a internal, battery powered, wireless, Alarm for their Safe.

It doesn't make any Sound, it just sends real time Alerts to you via Text and/or E-mail.

It comes with an Antenna you can plug into device to boost the signal to your router. Many put the wire through the opening in the safe for the power. I just ran the wire out the top right of the Safe's door and it closes perfect and doesn't punch the wire. The Base of the Antenna is Magnetic, so it can stick to anything. Mines just on top of my Safe pointing up.

Here is what the Alerts Look like on your Cell Phone as well as the interface. You can access from a PC as well.

What happens if the antenna wire and power cord are cut?

My understanding is the alerting device is battery powered. So the device itself and antenna are completely housed in the safe.

I presume the power cord seen in the picture is for the safe lights and/or a goldenrod which might be in use.

Hello from Texas my fellow M&P Madmen!

It has been a really crazy year for me and guns. Why? Because prior until a few months ago, I didn't own any guns and never have, except a cheap Wal-Mart Shotgun I bought 15 years ago that I haven't shot in 10 years.

OK, we'll get to the M&P, since it's an M&P Forum, but the quick run-down. I bought my first hand gun in March and I haven't even shot the damn thing yet. My wife also doesn't even know I have it, YET! She will, but I am trying to break her in to the idea nice and easy. I got a Springfield 9mm XD Mod.2 4" Bi-Tone. Springfield had an awesome promotion and I received 3 extra magazines, a holster, and a mag holder free.

I also ALREADY bought 500 rounds of Federal 9MM Ammo, a Magula Mag Speed Loader, a Stream-Light TLR2-HL-G (800 Lumen tactical weapons light, with strobe, and a green laser, and some ear muffs. I can get carried away sometimes, remember, haven't even shot the gun yet!:confused::D

I have been looking at AR's and started to get the "ITCH" last year and started watching videos, etc. I was between the Ruger AR556 & Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport II. So Yesterday I say to myself, I am getting it and I "pulled the trigger" (not actually, since I don't have the gun yet, and the hand gun I own hasn't even been fired 1 time yet)

I was happy as I got it for $499, with Free Shipping! The place I'm having it shipped to does the fire-arm transfers for $10.

OK, so in the last 24 hours I have already bought several extras for my AR15, and I haven't even got the rifle yet.

I got the following:

-500 rounds of PMC Bronze .223 Remington 55GR FMJ-BT Ammunition ($5.99 per box of 20).

-Bushnell TRS-32 5 MOA Red Dot with Mount. Had an eBay $15 Memorial Day Coupon and paid $74.99, PLUS Bushnell has a 25% rebate and with another 2% off on my CC, it will be $55.00.

-Got (10) D&H 5.56 30rd Aluminum Magazines from Palmetto State Armory ($7.99 each and free shipping). I hope these work well with my M&P Sport II?

-Just ordered a 42" Plano All Weather Tactical Hard Shell Gun Case for my AR15 (cost only $56.00). I almost got the 36", would have fit better, BUT the 42" will allow me to keep mags, and other accesories, maybe even my XD Mod.2 9MM handgun. It has that foam you "Pick Away" at so it outlines each item in the case, for the money, it's a good deal, but I kind of wished I got the 36" case, just because it's more compact.

I am excited and can't wait to shoot the gun. Maybe I should have got a SCOPE instead of that Red Dot?

Anything else I should Buy? (Bi-Pod, Gun Sling, etc.?)

Thanks and I am excited to be a part of this group!

The Bandit...................
You wont regret it , I have had mine for 4 years, it and my model 25 are my two favorite guns

I never went into my marriage 41 years ago with the idea I would function completely independent of my wife's wishes. She is the same way about me. I've bought a few things over the years that were substantial without telling my wife and so has she. But the far better policy is to confer on budget issues. The things I want are my business. OUR money isn't my business alone. I never thought a marriage was a true union unless such things were open and above board. A lot of marriages end because of money issues. I don't believe that's a concern for our OP here but for many it is. Besides I got married to become part of a partnership that is great than the sum of two individuals. And it works very well that way. No lingering bad feelings come from consulting each other over major purchases. And a gun is a major purchase just as a dangerous item if not because of the money. Some people have a downright irrational fear of guns. I wouldn't want my wife getting a pet pitbull trained to attack only without asking me. It's a dangerous thing to have around kids. I kept my guns all but completely disabled when my kids were young. I did know how to put the parts together in a hurry if the need arose but having guns around a kid is something a person dang well better discuss with a wife. Mothers have a protective nature and to many of them a gun is evil incarnate. It may not be rational but that doesn't make it less disturbing to some.

Again if you want a true marriage of two souls you share everything good and bad. Being sorta married never appealed to me.

Yes the Cord in Picture is for the motion sensor LED Blue LIGHTS.

SafeElert is battery powered and it's inside the safe.

When I finally had enough of my x I kicked her sorry (donkey) to the curb.
When we had to go in front of the judge for the custody hearing of my 5 year old (25 years ago) the judge said she could have supervised parental visitation ONLY if she were to seek help for her drinking problem. She stood up, flipped off the judge, and walked out of the court room! Well, you DON'T make a judge mad! He gave me full parental custody and didn't allow her within 1K ft. of my son until he was 18 years old. NO talking, emailing, letters, etc.! To this day she is STILL an alcoholic, drinking an average of 18-20 12oz. Coors Light beers EVERY night!
When we were married, she had her money, I had mine. I bought every gun I could think of, within reason. But, being she was inebriated most of the time, I had to buy a HUGE safe!
Anyway, it was very nice not being castrated and being able to do AS I PLEASED! More men should try it sometimes.

My wife has her money and I have mine, but only AFTER all the bills are paid! We also had an agreement from day one: I don't buy curtains, furniture, decor, or dishes and she doesn't buy cars, guns, boats, or houses!:) It's worked for 27yrs so far.:)

Some marriages are NOT made in heaven it seems. There are things a person needs to do to make a marriage work. Drinking isn't one of them. Putting God first in your life is. Still too many marriages end up divorces. There are reasons for divorce. But we seem to let small things break up marriages in this country. Nobody said it was an easy thing like most stuff in life. I wouldn't want my kids around a juice junkie to that extreme either. But she is their mother. I'm glad I'm not in your shoes friend. Tough choices. There's a lot of that going around. I know your situation has been settled long ago but many are still struggling.

And yes there is something to be said for living alone. The Bible tells us it's the best way to live if you can do it.

Just a Quick Update on my PLANO Case (With the Pluck Foam). I returned the 42", and just got in the 36" version of this case today. It has a Yellow Handle and Looks Cool.

The 36" is SO MUCH better in terms of size. The 42" was bulky and those 6 inches really made a difference (That's what SHE said!):eek::D

I haven't mapped out the location or done the plucking yet, but it's basically just like plucking a chicken. If you've plucked one chicken, you've plucked them all!

The 36" cost me MORE than the 42" Case, but for storage and packing up your M&P Sport II, this is so much better. For the money ($57.98 + tax), I can't see you getting any better of a case than this one, and the nice feature is it ends up being custom exactly how you like it.

Here is the Link, and I also saw you can buy this from SAM'S Club if you're a member, but I am not.

I sincerely implore you to not store your rifle in that case. That case is made for transporting your rifle. Not storage.

Storing Guns in a Case with "Open Cell" Foam can lead to Rust/Corrosion [Archive] - Maryland Shooters

There are a lot more of these. Take the advice of someone that's been around firearms for over 55 years. Foam rubber cases hold moisture against your gun and it will make anything rust that can rust.

If you didn't see in this thread he has a brand new safe that was just professionally installed. I believe the case is for transport.

I see a post of mine has disappeared.
TMPB, do as CJ suggests and don't store your rifle in that case. Unless, you do as I had done once before. I had a case similar to that one that I would store one of my RUGER 10/22's in. But, I would spray a light coat of WD-40 on the foam about once a month. It did two things; prevented rust, and kept a light oil residue on the rifle. That was one of those tips that my German grandfather taught me.

Yes I know about the safe. Hopefully he keeps the rifle in there for storage. My reason for posting was what he said about the case. He said, "The 36" cost me MORE than the 42" Case, but for storage and packing up your M&P Sport II." Of course packing up your rifle is the reason for cases like the Plano but not storage as he suggested. I'm just trying to do the guy a favor and help him understand how fast rust can attack a gun stored in a foam rubber case.

I would not use wd-40 on any gun, with all do respect to your Grandfather. Look at the MSDS for WD-40 and you will see that WD-40 does not contain a lot of oil. It is only about 25% petro oil IIRC.

https://wd40.com/files/pdf/msds-wd482671453.pdf

It might be ok for some cleaning. It would be ok as a lubricant if nothing else was available but it is not good for long term storage because it evaporates and gums up when left on or in something. It is a water disperser, WD, and it will dry sometimed leaving a film or build up on guns.

There are better products for long-term protection and storage of firearms and there are certainly better cleaners and lubricants so there is no need to ever use it IMHO.

I've seen guns so gummed up from WD-40 the bolt wouldn't slide. I've seen people spray a can of that stuff in their gun when they went shooting. Their gun would get sticky and not function right so they would spray some more WD. Meanwhile, my totally dry rifle never missed a beat. I never even lubed my SKS for years. I considered it a throwaway gun because of the price I paid for it. But the thing just wouldn't die. I've since had it apart and there are no signs of metal on metal wear anyplace. Of course it was built with sloppy tolerances which makes me wonder if the parts ever actually touch each other. :)

I run all of my guns with minimal oil. Unless there is a problem I won't put oil in an action except for maybe a single drop worked over the entire action. Oil catches gun powder residue and creates more problems than it solves at times. And WD is by far the worst I've seen for this. I learned that lesson long ago on my bicycle. The gears had so much gunk built up in them they wouldn't shift. I cleaned them out (finally) and used a different lube and never had another problem.
