I bought the M&P 15-22 about a month ago and today I picked up its bigger brother the M&P 15 Sport. :D

I notice a little play between the upper and lower on this rifle that isn't there on the 15-22. Is this anything to be concerned about?

Welcome to the AR club.

The upper and lower receivers are held together by 2 pins. These pins allow for slight movement which will not affect weapon accuracy. You can ream the holes and replace the pins with larger diameter pins which I would not recommend. Doing so will make it harder for you to interchange receivers in the future.

Congrats! I like your style. I'm a bit biased because I have the same combo. :D

Don't forget to post the obligatory pictures of both of them in this thread.

Normal. There will be some play between the upper and lower. It doesn't affect accuracy.

Congrats. I have the Sport and am trying to get the 15-22 without my wife finding out. You know...beg for forgiveness. This close to the holidays, she may get mad. Normally she doesn't care what I do.

To the uninitiated, they'll look similar enough. Get the 15-22. Just don't have them both out at the same time. ;)

If the play really bothers you, you can put a small Oring around the front upper retaining block that the pin slips through and it will tighten it right up.

I remember a couple years ago, Cabela's ran an outstanding promotion. I think this was before the M&P rifles gained traction in the market.

The promo was buy any center-fire M&P 15 rifle (excluding the Sport) and get a 15-22 for free. I want to go back in time and kick myself in the butt for not getting in on that deal.

I was looking at the ace stock on the Model1.com website and it came with the tube, buffer and spring for about $90!

Have you purchased anything from Model1 before? Says they apply shipping charges AFTER your order is placed. How is that possible? I don't want to be surprised with a ridiculous shipping rate.

I am in compliant New York so this is still legal as the ACE is not adjustable correct? Will I have to get a new buffer tube as well since this is a compliant rifle?

You can blind pin and seal most any adjustable stock to make it compliant. The ACE is listed as using an A1/A2 buffer tube and the Sport is also reported to be mil-spec - you can measure yours to be certain. An interesting fact I didn't know before researching a new build is that a commercial buffer tube offers a longer length of pull, about an inch as I recall.

Honestly I havent so I dont know, a friend just showed me the website the other day and some of it seemed pretty surprising. So sorry no I havent ordered, but a person could call them instead of ordering over the web and find out before the purchase.
