Weren't guns taken away from law abiding citizens during the Katrina disaster? Did the NRA then help pass Federal legislation banning local governments from taking our guns for future disasters? Please inform me. Thanks.

Somewhere there is file footage of an edlerly woman in her own apartment getting tackled by a 250 pound something to take the gun away from her. Just about all the news services had it up on the screen at one time or another. Firearms were confiscated bu the powers that be so that supposedly those weapons would not be used against them. Many of those weapons still have not been returned to their rightful owners. And yes legislation has been enacted to prevent seizure of peoples weapons used for self defense. The legislation was enacted here in louisiana. I'm not so sure about our neighboring states.

What's comedy is that the vast majority of those thousands of guns (which incidentally mayor Nagin denied taking until he was shown the pics of storage trailers full of guns..."Oh, you mean THEM guns...") will never see their rightful owners again.

The reason being NO receipts were given and no serial#'s were recorded by the authorities. Just took 'em as they found 'em. Lots of nice guns stacked on top of each other, rusting and getting dinged up or much worse.

An old buddy of mine is a retired FBI agent. He told me that it's been a longtime joke amongst the FBI guys that the New Orleans Police Dep't was the only one in the U.S. where you could both arrange a hit and file the paperwork afterwards without leaving the building.
