[Senior Citizen]

I saw this little pistol today in a gun magazine. Caliber: 22 magnum, Capacity: 30 rounds, Loaded weight: 19 ounces, MSRP $440.00

Not a bad looking little toy. The price of the gun makes it worth a try, but the price of the ammo makes it a little expensive to play with.

Anyone here have any first hand experience with this little gun?

I hate to say it, but five will get you ten that Kel-tec is having the same exact problems that all other makers that tried making a .22 WMR semi-auto pistol, such as Grendel and AMT. It's not a good sign when even Ruger discontinued the 10/22M.

I just made the same response on another forum. The .22wmr does not lend itself well to an autoloader. I would wait a while and see if they can work the bugs out. I have heard that they have already had to redesign the barrel.

CDNN has listed them in the last 3 catalogs for $300. They never have them. I have no interest in them. Grendel made a 30 round .22 mag many years ago. Seems to me the NFML mags would weaken and swell and cause real problems.

I've had a PMR-30 since November, and have had to send it back twice. I guess you could call me a beta tester.

After the first trip to Florida, it came back running like a top. I could shoot it slow and careful or as fast as I could pull the trigger, without a hiccup. It is a BLAST to shoot (literally and figuratively). After about 2,500 rounds, it experienced an OOB, and was made inoperable. Kel-Tec rebuilt it, and I’ve put 425 rounds through it, after its return, with only 5 instances where the slide locked back with one round remaining in the magazine.

I’m no deadeye marksman, but I can put 15 of 25 rounds in the 4” black circle of a 50’ NRA pistol target, at 50’, and 25 of 25 rounds in the 4” black circle of a 50’ NRA pistol target, at 25’, using a two handed grip. Even just blasting away, I can put all of my shots on the paper of that target (8.5” square).

At the plinking range, I can run the gongs, and when shooting at cans or plastic bottles, instead of just falling down when hit, the .22 Magnum rounds send them flying. As a plinker, it is a lot more exciting than shooting a .22LR. I’m very satisfied, even with my teething experiences. Close to 3,000 rounds with about 60 failures. Plenty of times I’ve run two or three magazines in a row with no problems whatsoever.

I saw one in the shop yesterday. It lasted a few hours before someone bought it. It actually came with two (2) magazines. The trigger felt very nice. I weighs in at absolutely nothing/ Feels like a air soft gun, kinda looks like one also. Besides what the others have posted, go to the KT web site and read how many have blown up. They also have replaced all the barrels with a different twist as the bullets were keyholing (when it worked)

Even if it was flawless I just do not see it's purpose? 22mag is just too expensive you can buy FN 5.7 x 28 for the same price. Yes, the gun is way more expensive but it works.

KT is also coming out with a 14 round pump shotgun!

Keltec is just a latter day incarnation of Grendel. The Swedish brains behind it all, George Kelgren, is sort of the John Moses Browning of the Saturday Night Special. Er... Value priced firearm. The 92 AWB sort of killed the first attempt off a bit prematurely (which was the Grendel) so the subject was revisited.

The FN 5.7 and its cartridge out performs the .22 Mag out of a handgun, though the KT .22 mag offering is meant to be sort of a poor man's 5.7.

.22 Mag ammunition is cheaper than 5.7mm ammunition.

Put 300 rounds through mine without a problem, a lot of fun. CCI ammo is 10.97 at wally world. Quite a powerful round even in the short barrel.

Either would be a range toy and not a serious social tool. The extra $700 will buy a whole bunch of ammo.

OH, BTW the H&Ks have been harder to find in shops around here since the recent use of one by the muslim terrorist disgrace to the uniform to commit fratricide.

I just can not share the enthusiasm for the 22 Magnum round. Even in a rifle, why not a 22 Hornet? 223 Rem? The 22 Mag has not proven to be reliable in a semi auto handgun. Even as a so called "range toy" what is it's advantage over the 22 LR? I have not personally shot the KT but the reviews are not favorable either for accuracy or reliability.
Yes, the 22 Mag is cheaper than the 5.7 ammo I misspoke.

If I am going to buy ammo then I would rather burn up 9mm
For plinking I would stay with 22LR in a a very reliable accurate Ruger MII.

The KT has a certain "cool" factor but to me, that's about all. I hope they can get it running well. They have a fine company in my home State and are in a niche market.

At least KT is very responsive to customer service. They pay for return shipping and return guns at no cost to the consumer. If you need a part they will send it to you.

I have owned 2 Grendel P-30s since the mid-90's. I've put thousands of rounds through each, I can't recall either one EVER having any issues with firing, feeding, or extracting/ejecting. To the best of my memory, they have been absolutely flawless, as well as being extremely accurate, even out to 75 yards. I have only used Winchester Super-X 40 gr. JHPs, as I started with them, and they worked so well I saw no reason to mess with success...so I can't comment on their reliability with any other ammo.

As to purpose...well, I won't try to justify that. You either like and want a .22 WMR, or you don't. I agree, it's not cheap. Fortunately, I bought a ton of ammo back when prices were more reasonable.
