Has anyone else had a problem with images disappearing from their Photobucket library. This has happened three times now. I have cleaned out unnecessary images on a fairly regular basis. I doubt if there is a limit that I passed but that could be a possibility.

I had intended to keep a file of images of each of my guns for insurance purposes. And I realize the need for a non cloud based record.

How do you manage your online images and have you too lost photographs.

I've encountered a few temporary inconveniences and a couple of irritating format changes, but I've survived. Never lost an image that I'm aware of. YMMV.
f.t.

p.s. You mentioned a limit,so I just went and added up my libraries. I have 2,045 pics currently stored. Do you have any idea what this "limit" might be?

It has become a pain to use but in my case part of that is probably my old computer.
I have put some pics in there and wanted them in one section of my library but I found them in another section.

Used to use photo bucket, got to be a pain..... I now use "Flickr" for all my on line wildlife photography. It works well.

I haven't lost any pics on PB but it has become somewhat cumbersome. As to limits, I don't think it's based on the number of images but rather the combined size of those images, or at least that's my guess. If you're approaching a limit you could simply open another free account.

Insurance pics require a different solution, in my opinion. I wouldn't rely on any outside custodian. I'd have a hard copy on disc tucked away somewhere, maybe even old school printed, cataloged images in a binder as a back up to that.

I got fed up with Photo bucket and Image shack both. I now just post off my computer and have no problems. For some reason though when I post up on here the pics come out small and you have to put your cursor on it to see it full size. But that's fine. It doesn't do that anywhere else I post and it's not big thing. I will never go back to PB or IS. I will say that of the two I had better luck with Image shack.

Hmmm, never heard of it. I've never lost a photo that I know of. Of course I have 1047 pics on Photobucket so, I guess it's possible and I just haven't noticed it.

You can check to see if you're reaching the limit. Click on:
User Name(it doesn't say that, just whatever name you have for your account)

On that page is a summary of your usage. One is Storage Used. I'm currently sitting at 1.38% of total allowed for my type of account. I upgraded because I have a lot of people that look at my pictures. So, I was using a lot of bandwidth, even though I wasn't using a lot of storage. Now I have unlimited bandwidth.

All my pictures and flies get saved in 3 different places.
We found a computer at a yard sale for $10. It works great it just wasn't fast enough for the previous owner. It's not connected to the internet and we store our files and pictures on it.
We also store our files and pics on a flash drive and they're also on our laptop.
I've got lotsa pics and gif's on photobucket and if they lose everything I have there it's no big deal.

Photobucket limits are twofold. First there is a GB limit. I don't remember what it is, but you're right, you could just open another free account.

Then they have a bandwidth limit. This is how much are your pics being looked at by others. So, if you post a pic to this site and 1,000 people look at it, that's more bandwidth than if only 2 people look at it.

If you reach a bandwidth limit it cannot be fixed by opening another account. You might have only one pic and if it gets a lot of views, you'll still hit the bandwidth limit.

To recant the indelible words of renowned philosopher Carson, "I did not know that".

Timely thread.

I noticed my most recently added pictures gone this morning. I hate the format of Photobucket since the change last year.
A member of their "Community Outreach Team" under the forum name russphotobucket even replied to a thread on the constant struggle it is to use the site.

But it didn't help with the fact that the website is unnecessarily complicated and ponderous to use.

I'm done with Photobucket! They stole all my self nudes and sold them on the internet. I eventually tracked them down to an old lady's computer in Kansas. She told me if I wanted them back, I'd have to come and get them in person...over a romantic tuna casserole dinner. Lesson learned.

I've heard this before, but don't understand it. I find Photobucket to be much easier to use that most other pic sites I've tried. Maybe I'm just used to it.

I use Zenfolio and bought the first upgrade. I have 8000+ photos average 6MB. I have uploaded up to 1.5 G at a time. I have made prints, books and other deliverables for gifts and like all of it.

Well this is all very enlightening.

Now, is there one photo hosting sight that is head and shoulders above the rest? I would not mind paying a small, very small, yearly fee for the service. Of course free is better.
