Snowy day so I rented a Red Box movie, after I figured how to operate the red box........I got The Killer Elite, and sat down for the movie....It sure didn't take long to realize this is a recent movie about a 1960-70's incident in Oman..I remember the controversy years ago....The British government was all over themselves denying the use the SAS over oil...Imagine that! Now this new movie lacks all the new super special effects we have become used to....In fact the movie though made in 2011 lookes like movies made in the 70, and 80,s....With the same realality that the "Dogs of War" and "Wild Geese" seemed to have..I do remember all the brew ha that surfaced after the Wild Geese came out....To close to the truth for the British governmen or so it was reported.....The original book "The Feather Men was written by Sir Ranulph Fiennes in 1991, and written as fiction based on facts...?...Due mostly because the British Government had a fit about the book....The SAS operations in Oman were conterversal at theleast during that little war?? Now if you love real life special ops type of stuff get the Feather Men..If you can buy it for under 80 bucks..No Kidding! I din't know if the re issue with the movie name Killer Elite is un edited or not..I will find out. The fasinating thing is the referense to the "Clinic" a mysterious group of extremely well trained assassins alleged to be former SAS troopers and other extremely well trainedex-British special forces Royal Marine Commando's included. Also you have a group of active or not former SAS operatives called the Feather Men that tried to disable or kill the members of the Clinic for over 18-20 years....Rumor had it that the FeatherMen were being controlled by retired former SAS commanders that did certain work for the government with deniability built in due to their retirement.......The story about the Sheikh in Oman hireing the Clinic is believed to be true, as four of his sones were killed by SAS troopers during the oil war in Oman....The movie Killer Elite is based on the action resulting from, the killings and the after math, of those actions......Unlike now when super special effects rule the screen the Killer Elite is much more realelistic as was the Wild Geese, and The Dogs of War...Intersting at least, especilly for those of us that came up in the military and police service in the 60's........The SAS was started years before the Green Barets. and our Seals etc. I would love to get the original book.."The Feather Men" Mybe somebody from California or the East Coast would have better luck and be able to buy at a more realistic price.....But the entire story of the Feather Men, and The Clinic would be real intertaining to say the least, especially for those of us that love that secrete ops stuff that seems to be blurred by half truths, lie's and some truths.........Sir Ranulph Fiennes allegadly a former SAS operative has written many books dealing with the operations of the British special forces, including the total screw up in the first Gulf War that tuned out to be a disaster for those who were in that unit of the SAS.....Intersting story at least, a time when covert actions were still being done secretly . Imagine that!!
