Good Morning!

I need to replace a missing insert for a King front sight. I know Brownells makes a insert kit but are there any other options or a preferred method for this type of replacement?

Is there a forum member here who has experience in this and would be willing to lend a hand?

Ideally I would like something period correct or at least to look the part!

I’ll make sure to post up the piece once I have it completed.

Are you looking for the blade to go in a reflector base? Shoot us a photo of what you're working with and we can help more. The blades are easy to replace if you're working with the king base - just a small screw...

Wow I guess I should have made that more clear! I just need the red insert for the blade.

I feel like it should be pretty straight forward but you never know....

You may want to post a pic of the sight blade you are trying to fix. The inserts are in a few different sizes and thicknesses.

My red bead sight is really tiny as opposed to my red post sight.

I may be able to help depending on what you need.

Here is what I am working with

IF you can remove the screw that holds that front sight in place (screw head is a mite bugger up), I would remove it and buy a kit from Brownells. You would have to construct a fence around it and pour the epoxy until you have enough hardened material to file to the shape and thickness you want. Take a small drill bit and remove the plastic that is still inside of the sight. Make the fence out of oiled or waxed card stock, held in place with a strong clothes pin.

Here is a picture of what your front sight looked like before it broke:

And if you think about and decide it might be over your head for any reason, including tools, eyes, and manual dexterity, PM the link for this string to BMCM, get a time estimate, and take a modest drive.

A member, gunsmith, master machinist (retired Master Chief Bosun's Mate, USCG) who mostly hangs out in the subform for the S&W autopistols. I have had him do work on two of my revolvers based on seeing the work he has posted ... do a search.

Looks like he did a great job!

I would like it done as period correct as possible so I'll probably have it done, instead of me botching the job and ending up with epoxy everywhere.
