Kirk Douglas Passed...

An icon has passed. I liked him in, Spartacus.

But he and son Michael have been among the most ardent anti-gunners in Hollywood! That always affects how I perceive a person, however good they may be as an actor.

He was never among my favorite actors, or at least most of his films weren't among my favorites. But I do have one favorite film of his, "The Bad and the Beautiful" from 1952. Also starring Lana Turner at the height of her sexiness. It's just so 1940s it's uncanny. And it has an outstanding musical score by David Raksin. It shows up on TCM occasionally. No action sequences and not a single shot is fired, but I like it and have watched it at least 5 or 6 times. The plot - It's a movie about making movies.

I just checked - It's scheduled on TCM on Tuesday, 2/11 at 10 PM.

And then, there is "The Final Countdown." Possibly the most hokey war movie of all time.

He was great in so many films, Seven Days in May and Paths of Glory top my list. RIP Seaman Land.

He was a typical gun hating Hollywood liberal with a lot of skeletons in his closet, that were never mentioned in the his press agent written Bio, but he made it to 103, which few of us will match! I did enjoy his acting in many of his films, however, so R.I.P., Mr. Douglas. Ed.
