Do any of our esteemed members have any experience with Kirkman oil lamps. Most of the parts are 'suppose' to be made in the US of A.

Need something that will get me though a power outage and not make me keel over from any fumes. Please "enlighten me" :)

Any lamp will produce CO in some quantity. When we moved to our old neighborhood 40% of the houses did not have power. The Alladin with generator was the preferred by 10 to 1. Might check Craig's list or second hand stores as new ones are spendy. Chevron Pearl kerosene was a good clean fuel.

I love lanterns. I have several of Woody's lanterns. Mostly the Little Giant cold blast. I bought a few red ones this years for Christmas gifts, can't beat it for $20. I have an original Dietz Little Giant also that these lanterns are modeled after. I burn 1K kerosene in mine but use them mostly outdoors for mood lighting around the patio. When they're burning correctly, you get an intense light and very little smell. I have read that you can use lamp oil also but have not tried it. Try one, you'll like it!

Oil lamps have been one of my hobbies for the past 30 years and have found (as 3dots said in his post) that K1 kerosene works best for me. Have used it indoors and out in everything from Victorian era household lamps, to Aladdin lamps and barn lanterns. I have tried different lamp oils but they seem to have strong odors.

Getting cold up there Tom :D

Charlie

Charlie.....Chilly Willy for sure. But the wind knocked down a tree and took out poles and transformers on the road. Didn't have my generator so it was cozy reading by my headlamp.

I'm a boy scout at heart so trying to be prepared!!

I have a Kirkman lamp and really like it. I use it for Civil War reenacting. I know it is not period though. I have managed to get several original lamps and have a small collection.
