I think this is a handsome combination. And as I have stated before, the 5" M27 is my favorite S&W. I believe the stocks are made of bastogne walnut. They have a nice palm swell and the fit is exceptional. I like them very much and thought I would share.

They are pretty but I would not be able to use them. Anything over 38 Special and I need some checkering to hang on. I see smooth Magnas on 44 Magnums and I can't even imagine shooting them. The gun would fly out of hand.

Thanks for posting! That is a beautiful model 27, and John's
stocks really set it off. I have several sets of his smooth target stocks. (several .44 magnums), and have no problems with shooting the guns.
I do have rather large hands, and the fit of the stocks to my hands could not be better. The swell in his stocks is very close to the old S&W "coke" stocks.
teesur.

Beautiful. He is working on some for my 27-2 now. Can't wait!

Beautiful 5" M27-2, and the stocks are outstanding. John does great work. I, unfortunately, do not have a 5" M27-2. I do however, have a 4" M27-2 with a set of Ebony stocks John made. Yeah, the pic is not great, but I am working on that.

That's a fair point. I bought them to see "what all the fuss was about." The profile is really exceptional in my opinion. I wish I had a pic that captured just how much palm swell/coke profile they have. Very comfortable in my hand. I don't have plans to shoot them anytime soon but I'll report back if I ever do.

With my Elmer Keith loads, good checkering on target grips leaves my hand raw or bloody. The Kuracs make me hurt less when shooting stout loads.
