KYDEX & NYLON HOLSTERS UGLY BUT?

In my Ugliest Holster Thread some nominated kydex and nylon
holsters as candidates for the ugliest. I do agree that leather
holsters are far more beautiful, but there are times and
circumstances where kydex and/or nylon can fill the bill.

In the mid 1980s when our military transitioned from the 1911
to the Beretta M9 Bianchi provided the nylon, water resistent,
holster called the m12. Over 30 years later it is apparently
passing the test of time. It also fathered other nylon holster
lines such as the Accumold that has been successful with law
enforcement. M12 and Accumold Paddle is shown below left
with M9 and SIG P220.

What if you suddenly had a chance to fly to Alaska for a weekend
of fishing. You would want to take along your bear
repellant tool. You would want a bandolier style holster so you
could wear the tool outside your coat, positioned to draw quickly
if needed. There are some very nice leather models, like the
Diamond D Guide's Choice, or Galco's Kodiak for examples.
But what if you didn't have time to wait for those leather models
or you didn't want to drop a couple of Bennys for what would likely
be a one time venture? Crossfire makes a black nylon
model they call "The Alaskan". The holster comes with the
padded bandolier and waist band. About a 4th the price of
the leather models. Show below 2nd from left with S&W Model
29 .44 Magnum.

Wilson's "Tactical Assault" is shown in the center photo with
Beretta's Model 92. Safariland's "Custom Fit" Model with belt
loop is shown with Colt's 1911 Gold Cup.

I know they do a great job for those that use them but for me no plastic guns or plastic holsters.

I have a basic Uncle Mike's OWB with snap-strap for my Browning High Power and it works just fine and looks good. My Hogue Powerspeed Retention holster for my six-inch barreled Glock isn't going to win any beauty contests, but "beauty is as beauty does" and it does. I simply can't afford a beautiful leather holster for either one right now. I do like to drool over them here though!

At the risk of damaging my reputation,I have to admit that I actually own two camouflaged Uncle Mike's cordura holsters that I have used while hunting. The remaining 100,or so,are all leather,I swear!

Those camoflauged (where is the spell checker when I need it?)
cordura Uncle Mike's are very useful. I think they
sell a ton of them every hunting season. But I doubt they
will ever be a collectible.

I always kinda liked the looks of the M12 holster. Others, no.

I was one who said in crazyphil's thread on ugly holsters that any leather was beautiful compared to kydex and nylon, but they are functional! I have several for various uses, Mika, Remora, and FOXX holsters. All are well made, and serve a purpose, but more for a meal out on the town, and not for a BBQ!

In my opinion "the nylon's" never will match the beauty of a nice
leather set-up





but for sure "the nylon's" have their own advantages and fill some niches.
My first nylon was an Uncle Mike's for "try out" IWB

With the "cheap + ugly" Uncle Mike's IWB (it's thin and light-weight) the M 29-2 4"
can become the back up gun (Not taken to seriously).
