L Frame grip with covered backstrap

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find any info. I would like to have a set of grips for my L frames that covers the backstrap. My big hands need a little more filler there. (it points a tiny bit more natural for me) The pacmayrs feel good, but I don't like the material.

Any suggestions? Pictures would be great.

If cost isn't an impediment, check out the various Nills grips available. They make several styles with a covered backstrap. They also "size" some of their grips (S, M, L). And they just look classy.

If you like wood, try the classic Herrett's Jordan Trooper stocks in smooth walnut.

They cover both the front strap and rear strap. Keep in mind that the L Frame actually has a K Frame size grip frame so you have a lot of options. Check out some of the Thailand based makers on ebay too, they might have some styles that you like. I have had good luck with them although others report poor fitting, it may be the luck of the draw.

Yep. What he said. I have a few sets from Thailand that I bought on eBay. Beautiful woods, and many cover the backstrap. Some have an S&W medallion inset, other have the logo carved in. I haven't had a problem with any of them. They're usually inexpensive as grips go, anywhere from $35-60. Do a search for K-frame, I think more come up that way (and it's the same grip for K & L anyway.)

Nope. Not true at all. It depends on when it was made.

My 686 CS1 has a round butt and my 586 is square.

I have been tempted to do the Jordon Troopers, but always hated to gamble that much on them. I would pay it in a minute if I knew it would work.

But is the 586 considered an L-Frame? I think it may have been designated as a K-Frame. S&W's webpage for the 586 doesn't give the frame type, either in the spec list or in the verbal description at the bottom of the page.

586 is an L-frame; blue steel version of the 686 ....... but the nice part it has a K-frame size grip-frame and uses the same grips as the K-frame.

Yes, the 586 (and 686) are L frames but always had K frame grip frame dimensions.

With all 580/680 guns, ones with 2.5 or 3" barrels were RB, and longer ones SB, until the -4s (if one was made - I don't think there are any 581 or 681-4s). Any -4 or later was RB no matter what the barrel length; there may be exceptions to the rule.
