I just picked up an almost new 686-6. I have yet to shoot it but it only has a couple cylinders through it. It only passes the single action timing test on 2 chambers. Does this gun need a new hand being almost new?
Can I just lightly polish the top left of the cylinder stop to improve on
this? I suspect a bit of a break in may solve this but if it needs to go to SW, I want that to happen before I open it up.

Thanks

Sounds like a bad timing problem and is most likely the hand, BUT since you did say it was almost new it seems strange that it would be so grossly out of time so fast. Rather than just guess and replace parts, send it back to Smith and let them repair it properly. If you are handy and know your way around the mechanism you can slowly work the action and see what is happening. To fit an oversize hand is not that hard if you know what you're doing, but again...... sounds a bit funny to be that much out of time. Are you sure the cylinder is original to the gun?

DO NOT polish the cylinder stop and just make sure that it is fitting through the frame window and is engaging the cylinder notches correctly. In fact I would not do anything until you determining what the problem is. No sense in ruining another part while just guessing about the problem at hand.
