I prefer owb, looking for suggestions for my new to me 686-4 2.5". I would like to carry it once the cooler weather arrives and my hand is healed from surgery. Considering Wright Leather but don't know anyone that's ever bought any. A Galco Combat Master is also on the list. Thanks.

Based on a couple of custom holsters I saw Faulkner post I reached out to Nixon Leather in Alliance, Nebraska, and ordered a custom holster. Prices are very competitive but the quality is awesome.

I recommend checking out his FB page at Nixon Leather | Alliance NE

My SIL has the belt slide master carry from MTR Custom Leather for his K-frame. It is bullhide and the traditional pancake design.

He liked it so much he bought a different MTR holster for his FN FNX and a belt slide master carry holster for my daughter's Walther PPQ.

MTR does quality work at a nice price and there are other options for you to consider for your 686 2.5", which is on their gun make and model list.

I have several Tucker Gunleather HF-3 holsters for my revolvers and HF-2 for my semi-autos that are my favorites for OWB.

I carry my 686 snub in a Safariland Klipspringer holster. It's real easy to put on and take off and has a snap strap retention. I doubt they are still made; haven't seen one new in years.

You s/b asking for design specs of a 'good' holster, not brands. Few brands know that to carry a large frame snub comfortably while concealably, the cylinder m/b laying across the belt's width. This will prevent the set from being topheavy, and your having to buy a thick, stiff belt to keep the set from toppling away and printing. And Galco is the WORST for understanding this for revolvers. Professionally I recommend only DeSantis. I design with a 24-degree negative-caster carry, minimum 20 degs; for comfort and concealment at 4:00. If you're belly carrying, count me out altogether!

This Galso TOO HIGH:

I too like DeSantis. Clearance at Midwayusa for a DeSantis thumb break scabbard for $37.32.

Product # 199314

Buy the 3 inch holster and it fits a PYTHON, GP100 or L FRAME. :)

That's a great price for a very good holster at Midway. I would also recommend that one or the speed scabbard with no thumb break but does not appear that they have that one. Photo below is speed scabbard with a model 36.
When I first got my 686-4 2.5 inch I ordered a Azula made in South Africa holster on line that I read about on the Forum. Had to send it back because they sent a 3 inch holster. Don't like it. Too flexible and tightening belt bends the holster and binds the gun. The rear sight hangs up on drawing.
I have the Galco for my 66 snub I also think it carries it too high.

Edit to ad - I went ahead and ordered the DeSantis from Midway

Appreciate the suggestions, I use a belt from The Beltman, have a couple and they are very well made and designed to support a handgun. I typically carry a 1911 for 99% of ccw, either 5" full size in cooler months or a 4" short grip during warmer times-both in Milt Spark VMII.

I'll let you know what I decide on.

If Azula has one I'd highly recommend it. Love this one for K snub. Can't be beat for 50 bucks. No way.

I use the R. Grizzle High Country with a straight pull (no cant).
This is a nice high riding holster for OWB. Perfect for these snubs. It is one of my favorite and is an excellent investment.

He makes this with or without a forward cant. The straight pull allows me to carry from just in front of the hip to just behind.

If you don't mind the wait, tough to beat a Milt Sparks PMK for strong side. They are @ 10 months last time I checked. Kramer if you want a crossdraw, only about 14 week wait on those.

I carry mine in a Kramer horsehide belt scabbard. Top notch holster but they're not cheap, and the wait time is pretty long. I ordered a shoulder holster mid March and I'm still waiting!

My LAST and final Kramer was 26 weeks. I'm done with em. And it wasn't up to snuff

I have been very happy with my TT Leather Snap Removable pancake holster for my Detective Special. Very comfortable, concealable, and convenient. have not purchased one for my 396 yet, because I carry that mostly fishing and mountain biking in a sling bag, but they make them for the 2.5 L frame.
