Lack of awareness + lack of gun = ?

I was in a grocery store the other day reading a gun magazine while waiting for a prescription to be filled. An older gentleman (mid to late 60s?) walked up to me and started talking to me about guns. He seemed to be a nice guy, and lonely, so I listened politely to him as he told me about all of the guns he owned. Then he told me that he had survived several mugging attempts to include a car jacking attempt. At this point I thought he was going to tell me that he always carried concealed and then tell me what his EDC(s) were. Instead, he told me about all of the pistols he stored in his truck, and even told me where he stored them. He also said he didn't believe in concealed carry. I was in shock! I'm not a threatening looking guy - short and fat, early 50s, casually dressed, and legally armed with my concealed EDCs. I asked him if he realized that he just told me where his arsenal was, what was in his arsenal, and that he was unarmed. In other words, if I was a thief or mugger, he was a great victim. He said: "...well, you seem like a nice guy". I then repeated the story he told me about the "nicely dressed guy that pulled a knife on him". I suggested that he should lock all of his guns up safely, obtain his CCW if he didn't already have one, and for gosh sakes - don't talk to strangers about being unarmed with a nice truck stocked with loaded pistols. I don't think he got the message, so I picked up my meds and left the store. It's like they used to say in the Army about common sense ...it's not that common.

Ok, my "lawyer-mode" antennae went up on this one. I suspect a plant - somebody figured you for a "gun-crazy" and thought they'd set this guy up as an easy-looking-victim, so they could "get" you when you follow him out to his truck to attack him. Entrapment is when the cops trick you into doing something you wouldn't ordinarily do - it's not entrapment if they simply provide you with an opportunity and you take it of your own volition. Hence the set-up.

Well, I'm about as trusting and anaesthetic as almost anybody, but I think there's a pretty good chance that user called this one correctly. What are the odds that someone in his sixties is actually that stupid and that unsocialized?

Unfortunately, being lonely does strange things to people. Humans being social animals, we require contact from others. That may be the reason why he was involved in multiple assault/robbery attempts.
