LAR Grizzly Mark I .45 Win Mag

Hey guys

A stretched out 1911, the mighty LAR Grizzly in .45 Win Mag caliber. I bought this gun back in 1997, after being frustrated with the lack of reliability of my Desert Eagle .44 Mag. I felt that a proper rimless case made for a semi auto pistol would work better than the rimmed .44 destined for revolvers.

And I have found it to be quite reliable and very pleasant to shoot, very accurate and recoil is manageable, a handful but that's to be expected. And they invented the .460 and .500 S&W since then.

Nice gun,was on the fence about one of those myself.Got to lave a big bore magnum semi auto.And you are right about the Eagle in .44 magnum,that round is best left for revolvers and lever actions.

I got mine in the '80s intending to use if for silhouette shooting. BUT, life changed and it got stuck in the safe.
Fast forward to '99 and our youngest son, 6'5", 230 lbs, wants to accompany me backpacking in the Rockies. Doesn't want a "mere" .44 Mag revolver like my Anaconda. Sees the Grizz and took it on that trip: 14 days, 110 miles, elevations between 9,700 and 11,500. Two years later, age 18, he nabs it from my safe.

I haven't seen it since. He's a cop, now, so he can arrest me for B&E if I try to get it back.

Sounds like if was an amazing trip. Seems you are LEO yourself, why don't you arrrest HIM for unlawful appropriation ?

I am lucky enough to have two MkI Grizzlies in my safe.
I have one set up with the 357 magnum conversion kit the other in 45 Win Mag.
I have a 10mm conversion kit that has never been fired, I'll get to it one of these days.

First I would advise NOT to challege him to a wrestling match to get it back!

Second, the Grizzlies could have eaten me because 1. I would be too tired to lift even a Baby Chief much less that cannon, and/or 2. I don't know if the are carrion eaters, because I would have died on the first 10 miles climbing up nearly a 2000 elevation change.
