Right now the whole Strip area and the streets around the Sphere are a Charlie Foxtrot while they resurface the streets for Formula 1. I'm not sure that you can park close by, maybe in one of the Strip hotels and then hike.
I haven't tried to get close to it, but I see it illuminated at night from nearby. Pretty cool looking. I believe the interior is still under construction.

What is the purpose of it?
Mostly concerts and events. I believe it seats about 17,000.
U2 will be the first performance the end of this month.
Was just out there. If you take the Monorail it will take you right by it. There is supposed to be a stage inside the venue for concerts. The outside is supposed to blow your mind............Is it blown?

Yes, but incomplete and only rarely tested.
We had no rental car, so we stayed on the strip from our base, Caesars, to MGM Grand, eating our way down both sides of the street.

It's not on the Strip, but on a street to the East, behind the Venetian.
We ate breakfast at Bouchon……magnifique.
The purpose? To get people to spend even more money in Vegas.
When it first was illuminated, it caused a stir. Cars driving by it would stop in the roadway (!) so occupants could take photos. There were accidents. I've driven by it a few times: it is of no interest to me as I'm in a hurry to reach the Wynn. The Sphere is supposed to be pretty, but I'd rather have 4 aces. That's pretty!

I have been to Las Vegas New Mexico. Only Vegas this old hillbilly needs to see.
I'm showing my age here but I liked Vegas better when it was run by the mob. So long as you didn't try to cheat them, they gave you cheap rooms, cheap food, cheap entertainment and free booze. Vegas today is run by people who may not take you out in the desert if caught cheating, but will do everything within their power to get every last dime out of you.

When I lived in AZ in the 1960 -1980s I use to go to Vegas at least once a month and now that I am back living in AZ I have been there 1 time in 3 years, and that will probably be it.
