The wife and I found this Model 19-3 in a local shop, and we bought it yesterday. Four inch barrel, pinned & recessed.
This gun was produced in 1976, and has the original grips, but no box.
I know a M19-3 isn't that big a deal, but here's why I bought it - it is spotless. I'm not kidding; besides a light turn line on the cylinder, there is no wear on the bluing anywhere, not even muzzle wear. There is some wear on the grips. it looks like the wood got too dry.
I looked for any marks indicating it had been re-blued, but there are none. The bluing is the deep, rich S&W blue. The action is also perfect, and it's very accurate. It looks like it came right from the factory. Neither the guys at the range nor I can not tell if it had ever been fired, but it's hard to tell. I guess someone kept it in their sock drawer for the past 33 years.
This "sort of" completes our .38 caliber S&W collection. We now have several N-frames (three M28s and a 27), an L frame (586 no dash), some lighter K frames (M15, 13 and 65), and a J frame.
We have a 19-5 in 6", but the wife's been bugging me for a 4". Now we have one!
