I have gathered that most members here are also dog lovers. I live in a rural area. The neighbors across the street recently acquired a Great Dane to chase their kids around. Big, but maybe a year old at most. He stays across the street and their house is about 100 yards off the road. He will come to the end of the drive at times and "woof" at me.
Last week, I heard snarling and growling and a few WOOFS that sounded familiar. I grabbed a pistol and went to investigate. Two scraggly strays were holed up under my utility building with the neighbors dog looking at them. I yelled at them and the strays fled with the Dane in pursuit. He wanted to play, but the strays were aggressive to a point, but fled when pressed. Later, the Dane reappeared and with much coaxing I got him to let me pet him. Turns out his name is Moose and he was tagged with a phone number.
I called and spoke with the owner. Told him the dog was fine, but I worried about him getting into the road. He assured me he would take care of the dog. Ol Moose still woofs hello when he sees me, but he is staying in his yard

Over the weekend my next door neighbor put up some blue lights on the house and roofline. In the yard he had a couple of small deer and some other blow up animal.

Last night when we went out just before going to bed "Jack" went balistic when he saw those things on the lawn. He was ready to fight and bite. Got him to come in and this morning he still gave some growls.

Jack is a two year old Red Meryl Aussie.

We've got neighbors who walk two giant Mastiffs past our house every evening. Our three year old Chow/GSD mix (Kimber) barks like mad at them through the window. These dogs outweigh ours by an easy 100 pounds, each! Last week, my wife opened the door when this was going on and told the dog: "Go ahead." Kimber looked at the open door and found something inside that needed doing..

I have a 7 yo Wirehaired Griffon about 60 lbs . The 85 yo neighbor has a 2 yo miniature Blue Heeler about 30 lbs. When I visit those two dogs chase each other, growl, wrestle and play fight until they are exhausted. The Griff can out run and out wrestle the Blue Heeler but she conveniently falls down every now and then so the smaller dog can get her licks in. Great entertainment for me cause I like dogs.

Oh Gosh. I gotta tell this.

Back in 1966 my wife and I were in our TR4 pulling a small camp tent trailer. We were vacationing from Grafton, WI to Gunnison, Colorado.

We had two whippet dogs with us. One was a high energy little racer with no balls, but he was fearless. Name was Sans Quarte.

We pulled in to a gas station that had one of those giant statues. This was a cowboy. Sans usually watched where he was going....even to the point of recognizing the last 5 miles to where we would take him racing...a 65 mile drive. The turn was where they sold oleo at the Illinois line. But this was a long three day drive. So we were somewhere in Nebraska or Iowa on 80.

This time he was half asleep when we hit a service station androusted him out to go peee.

The gas station view he got was something like this:

Sans went absolutely berzerk. He barked, growled, strained at the leash and had everybody looking, then laughing. He was ready to take on the giant!

( Great trip...made us decide to move to Gunnison. Unfortunately for Sans, two nights later, he got his tail tip slammed in the Triumph door. It always had a funny notch after that. )
