The list of projects keeps getting longer. After discovering the Goodwill and Salvation Army Ebay sites I have a couple more projects being added to the list. My $87 Epiphone Les Paul Junior and the first of two Yamaha GA-10 solid state amplifiers came in today.
The Junior is missing the high E string and has a nasty rattle that only shows up on the open low E, so I have a nut issue. Good thing I already have one on the way. It has a high output humbucker that is not my favorite pickup so I will get a Guitar Fetish P90 in humbucker format to replace it. The frets have no wear on them but I will give them a level, crown and polish just in case. Have a set of upgrades for the tuners, 3 in-lines for both sides. Have a better wrap around bridge that is adjustable for intonation enroute. This one will be a ways down the road before I start working on it, but I am looking forward to it.
The two Yamaha amps were $15 and $20 respectively, and they are not much bigger than a lunchbox. After taking the first one apart I have determined that I can replace the 4 inch speaker inside with a 6 inch Jensen by just carving a groove in the bottom plate. I also have a 8 inch Celestion guitar speaker sitting around. After some careful measuring, if I replace the sides of the amp cabinet with 3 inch longer pieces I can fit the 8 inch speaker in that one. The plan is to give the one with the 6 inch speaker to my niece in Colorado along with the resto-modded single P90 Japanese starter guitar I finished up the other day.
