I read this morning, that California has banned all lead bullets for hunting rather than in certain areas.
True?
You know, this is so easy to look up or research, I don't know why you have to even ask whether it's true.
But yes, it's true. Hunting with lead bullets and shot will be totally banned in California by July of 2019, after being gradually phased out in the intervening years.
Lead shot has been banned nation wide for all waterfowl hunting since around 1991, but it sure doesn't seem to have reduced the number of hunters, their activities, and the amount of money they spend doing it.
If hunters still want to kill animals for fun in California, they have all sorts of other types of cartridge/bullet combinations to choose from. So the argument trying to be made by some people that this is an attempt to ban hunting in California doesn't hold water.
There's also the argument that a lead ban will make the cost of ammo go up. Well, so? We're fifteen years into the 21st Century. There aren't a whole lot of gun-ammo-hunting-reloading-related stuff that
hasn't gone up in price. Bought powder and primers lately? How about that high-tech scope, or even your latest camo jacket or pair of hunting boots?
Face facts. If you can afford a fancy-dancy gun to hunt with, pay hunting license fees, and all the other associated hunting costs, you can afford a few extra bucks for non-lead ammo.
I don't even see this as a Second Amendment issue or thread on this forum, period. The Second Amendment protects the right to keep and bear arms. It doesn't guarantee you can use any kind of ammo you choose, and it doesn't even say you have the right to hunt.
I don't see this as a problem. Wouldn't see it as a problem in my own state. But in this case, it looks like just another excuse for people to whine about crazy California, and poke fun at the state.
