Now that I am nearing retirement I am interested in tinkering with some of my pistols. I was wondering if anyone out there could recommend books and/or DVDs that are about S&W revolvers and are developed for a beginner? Even though I have been a shooter for many years, I have never had the time to tinker with my firearms. Now I will have the time to learn. I appreciate any guidance I am given.

I really like Jerry Kuhnhausen's 'Shop Manual'. The AGI DVD is pretty good too.

As luck would have it, the Jerry Kuhnhausen series of shop manuals were written as training aids for new gunsmiths.

These are particularly good because Kuhnhausen trained new gunsmiths for the factories so he was real big on "do it the factory way".
For that reason you won't see any of the usual heating and bending of parts or any part making, or any of the shade tree "gunsmith" techniques.
They also sell videos to go with the books if desired:

Thank you, snw19_357 and dfariswheel. I appreciate your guidance. I have heard of Kuhnhausen. His books on the 1911 were recommended to me also. I will be ordering his publication on S & W pistols and the AGI video in the near future.

I just ordered 5 AGI DVD's from Midway that were on sale. Most are on backorder. Not the Armorers version, just the basic disassemble.

I had the one for Sig's, as I wanted to put a the SRT (short reset trigger) in two of my guns. It is replacing the sear and safety lever. The video enabled me to do a complete teardown and reassembly. Every single piece on the bench, new parts installed. I had never torn down a Sig before.

Could not have done it without the DVD.

Thanks for all of the input! I now have the Kuhnhausen manual on order and have found several different sites for the AGI DVDs. There's enough reading to keep me busy for months.
