Left lane squatters

Yeah but--at least they dont take up the middle of the bed like Shasta does on mine. I get up in the middle of the night to drink a few sips of water--come back and she is curled up in the center of my bed. I cant move her because she either has claws stuck in the bed--or will shread my hands as I attempt to move her over a few inches. :eek::(
 
In Texas some state highways have signs stating the left lane is for passing only, but it seems some people can't read. It sure is annoying when the posted speed limit is 70 or75 and the left lane squatter is doing 55 or 60.
 
a half-track would be a great get 'em out of the way car. If I'm really frustrated driving behind some bozo in the left lane I use a windshield bug as a sight and blast away ! I get them every time.
 
most truck drivers are extremely considerate & safe drivers....... they have to be with as many miles to drive every day with a rig that takes considerably longer to stop than does the average passenger vehicle. What is extremely dangerous is to see a car or pick up suddenly cut in front of an 18 wheeler when there is an emergency stop ahead......

Some passenger vehicle drivers are of the opinion they should have been NASCAR drivers & if they only drive like that every day, the owners of one of the racing teams will certainly hear of their prowess & hire them...... for millions of dollars .

I'm of the opinion that when we are driving 70 mph in heavy vehicles that we need to be very courteous to each other & let some one pass & to always let some one pull back in ahead of you after they've safely passed.......Unless the guy is doing his NASCAR imitation acting ignorant, then I probably won't let him in........
 
Dip chips dozing in the left lane don't bother me - I just pass them in the right lane. Passing on the right might be illegal in some states, I don't know, but that's what I do.
 
My commute is 50 miles one way. I see all kinds of stupidity every day. I'm actually staggered that I don't see more collisions (they are almost all avoidable so they're not accidents).
 
I can't stand it when someone gets up to a semi and then, won't pass it, but will just sit in the left lane, oblivious to the mile long back up.

More often than not, it seems like its usually one of our new friends from far away places, who's driving experience was previously limited to dromedary type transport.....
 
I see far more passive-aggressive (and aggressive-aggressive) activity from the left lane squatters than those who would DARE to alert others to their presence by briefly flashing the high beams.

The sense of entitlement extends itself to dangerous behavior, such as the "brake check" and "jerk swerve."

It almost makes one want to buy a beater truck with a railroad tie front bumper.

Your glass is half empty. Half full, the rolling roadblock becomes a slalom course. It happens everywhere, all year round, but the rude behavior is especially concentrated in the Hills during Rally Week. To be sure, there are a few courteous riders on Harleys who will yield to faster traffic (which is just about everybody). Even rarer is the competent Harley rider who can maintain a respectable pace, although only the very best can keep a rhythm in the twisties.

If I can do so safely, I usually just ride through them, passing on the right if they hog the left lane. They can become prone to belligerence, but I have never seen anything come of that.

As the old saying goes, it is the 99% that give the decent 1% a bad name.

I drive in any lane I choose and if you all don't like it, get off my highway!!!!
 
This has been something that has thoroughly pissed me off for the last 50 years or so. I have often fantasized about keeping a box of ball bearings on the seat next to me, and then when I finally get past the slow left lane driver, casually dropping the bearings out the window. I've never done it but I dream about how nice it would feel as I would watch their windshields shatter and them pulling off the road in disbelief.

You see this a lot, and they're usually going slow.

I once saw a compact car in the right lane, with a tractor trailer in front of and behind it, both mere inches from his bumpers. In the left lane was yet another tractor trailer directly beside the car. This parade went slowly down the interstate for quite some time.

I don't know what he did to one of the truck drivers, but I bet he hasn't done it again.

If the right lane is clear I just pass on the right. I've never heard of anyone being stopped for it.

Depending on the condition of the road I'll sometimes hang out in the left lane if it is smoother. Semis do a lot of damage to the road and the right lane is often in much worse shape.

If someone comes up behind me I'll move over if clear. If not clear, as I'm usually 5 or 10 over, they can wait. Tailgate me, then they get much less consideration from me.
 
Open highway? I'll agree with you. In the city, I'll stay right where I am if I am going over the speed limit (which I always am). I figure most of the time I am going faster than other lanes, and I will not bow to some self entitled person. Sometimes if I'm in no rush I'll move, but I will not be forced to believe I am obligated to. And if someone came up to me and flashed their lights, I am sorry but I am most definitely not going to move.

After driving in Germany for over a year I was amazed and dumbfounded by the number of morons that inhabit the inside lane while driving the speed limit or more often less. One day I was coming into town on the freeway and sure enough here the freeway has become choked ahead because of some moron toodling along in the inside lane, everybody went around to the right which when you think about it is basically against all sensible driving "Pass on the left" etc. mentality. When I finally got up to the car it looked vaguely familiar and suddenly I realized that the moron was my mother, she is a terrible driver. When I got home I called her and said "What are you doing droning along in the inside "passing lane"?" She said "I was going the speed limit and that is the "Thru Lane". I had to admit she did have a point in that at least in this state there used to be signs that stated "Thru Lane" on the inside lane. I still berated her for holding up traffic and if she did that in Germany she would be given a hefty fine as over there the inside lane is for passing only, they don't care how fast your going, get caught cruising along on the inside lane and you'll pay the price.
It drives me crazy, but now that I'm retired and drive better equipment than I used to and am seldom in any kind of hurry I pretty much go along with the flow. I still on occaison like to step out there with the big hitters and take a chance on getting a ticket and it never fails, there will be someone toodling along on the inside lane. I remember once coming back from Seattle, just East of Cle Elum traffic was backed up for miles, as I remember it was a couple of old boys side by side on the interstate, both of them going the speed limit and neither one willing to back down and let the other over, eventually a plow truck came along with its lights and they the old boy on the inside gave way, he probably kept his right turn signal on for the next 60 miles.
 
Inconsiderate and selfish. I hate em.

Driving the Greater Seattle area everyday all day I see all sorts of stupidity. Driving under the posted speed limit is equally as dangerous as driving too fast.

And according to state law, the left lane is a passing lane only. But there is just too much traffic and lack of enforcement for it to matter. :rolleyes:
 
Let them roll along in any lane that makes them happy...... As long as theres room for me to pass on the shoulder. :)

Left lane squatters should be considered Practice Targets for Photon Torpedo's (or a Rail Gun whichever happens first). It's long been a fantasy to have a button on the dashboard that would cause a cartoon giant hammer to pop out of my hood and smash the offending vehicle to the thickness of a quarter so I could then drive over them.

Folks, it's a PASSING LANE, if you aren't passing someone get your behind into the right lane where it belongs!
 
I used to stop people for it. Disgraceful, and inexcusable. Same as the clowns who think it is lawful and/or appropriate to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk (which it is not in WA, no matter what the tradition is in the Soviet of Seattle).

Trucks: One of the problems that creates the poor/slow passing of one truck by another is that they are often road speed limited to arbitrary speeds by company policy, poor specifications leaving them underpowered, or by those silly two tiered speed limits. The folks who get next to them and won't pass for fear or some other lackwit reason make me a tad tense. Stopped a few of them, too.
 
The great unspoken issue in this already-lengthy thread is, what if the car ahead of you in the left lane is already exceeding the speed limit by, say, a "safe" 5 to 7 miles per hour?

I don't encounter as much problem with slow drivers in the left lane as I do when I am in the left lane, slightly exceeding the speed limit, with traffic on the right hand side so I can't move over even if I were inclined to do so.

Still, cars will catch up with me ahead of them in the left lane, get on my bumper, and ride there as if they're just daring me not to speed up to match their excessive speed, or else to elbow my way into the right lane so they can continue on their speedful way.

And if they flash their lights at me while they're performing this stupidity, I will respond with one of the few times I ever give another driver the finger. Count on it. :mad:

I regularly drive a short portion of Interstate 95 on my comings and goings here locally, and the idiocy of so many of the drivers there is absolutely overwhelming. Speed limit is 70 in that stretch, and yet some folks there seem to think 80 is the least anyone should travel. Grrrrrr......

In this situation I'll let them sit there and go crazy. I'm already going faster than the right lane and I will move over as soon as I have a opportunity, I can't just make a lot empty spot appear. If they don't like it they can ride my bumper all they want that's what his insurance is for
