Does the trigger mods puts you in a bad light when it comes to court cases for SD? I'm still waiting on the pigtail spring from S&W. Are they gonna send me one or have they changed their policies in regard to trigger mods?

depends on where you live in the great state of Texas you are still allowed to protect yourself now Commiefornia is a different story. If you were within your legal rights to use deadly force to protect yourself I dont see how it would matter if you had a 1lb trigger or a 100lb trigger. Now if say you were carrying 5 mags, 3 knives, mace, tazzer, stungun, nightstick etc... they might make a case you went looking for trouble. But again if force as justified it wont matter.

Thanks. I've read in another gun forum that if your trigger is under certain poundage it is considered a "trick" (my word) trigger. At least mine has more than enough poundage but it did get me to wonder.

Taxachusetts is the same way, its a gray area in the laws just like using your handloads as your carry ammo. I just put an Apex DCAEK in my M&P40 that i always carry. The politicians can kiss it. But i would NOT carry with the 3.5lb competition trigger, thats trouble.

Here's the truth.
If you kill or mame someone, You will need a good 2nd ammendment attorney, period. If you are found not guilty for reason of self defense you are still liable for a civil suite. The prosicution will tell the jury that you are a paranoind gun freak with an altered weapon.
remember when you bought the gun it said you could not alter the mechanics of thwe gun past its factory specifications? this is where everything plays out. If your gun is altered (lighter trigger pull) you are a trigger happy gun freak and you will pay thru the nose weather you truly are or not. Remember the first part of this? Dead men tell no tales. this will be your word vs. the prosicuters. If the gun is not modified you wre defending your self and you did not just want to kill someone for the fun of it. If the gun is altered you will have to explain why the gun is altered and what was your intent of using and altered weapon. this may sound easy enough but there are so many laws that take effect after you kill someone it not even funny. If you alter a gun you better be damn sure you are not carrying it and/or be real sure you had the right to take leathal action. this is WAY BEYOND reasonable doubt. The safe bet is only use your factory gun for SD and your fun guns for private property play use.

bottom line if you do have to use your firearm watch what you say....use words like "I had to stop the threat" or "neutralized the threat" ....never use words like kill or anything implying harm or death.

Again im talking about justified use of force here

Here's the truth.
If you kill or mame someone, don't mame them, KILL them and make sure they are dead even if that means a couple extra shots to the head and heart.......

Wow. You have just advocated doing what qualifies as 1st Degree Murder in most states. Unbelievable. I would NEVER make such a careless statement in a public forum, nor would I ever advocate such an unlawful act.

I would also NEVER follow Vector 16's advise, and I NEVER alter a self defense weapon beyond changing the grips to fit my hand better.

Uou mean don't say you followed my advise. And the part of your statment is the same as what I said about altering your firearm.
The only words out of your mouth should be, "I cannot answer any of your questions until I talk with my lawyer". They will still ask you questions but you have to stand steady and insist you talk to a lawyer before eyou answer any questions at all. be sure that your family and friendes don't talk to a lawyer either, EVER. The police are there for the soul poruse to put you in jail for a long time. Never talk to the police, they are not your friends.

Check with the Oklahoma City pharmacist that was convicted of murder-went way past stopping the threat. Maybe he got some real bad advise on a forum somewhere.

So removing the pigtail spring is in fact altering the gun? Even though it was put there as a result of the Glock lawsuit?

Just wanna be sure of it. I sent an email to S&W on how I can make it right.

Yes, its altering the gun. Its not however latering it to the point of making you a "gun freak" and could have been done "before you got it". So, As far as you know its in factory condition.

I got my advise from a LEO and a 2nd ammendment lawyer.

Any change can be questioned, changing it beyond factory norms say below 3.5-4lbs is asking for it. However, having a gun who's heavy trigger makes it ineffective is a bigger risk. It's a balance.

And for those who asked, the gun will be taken, torn down and inspected EVERY time, count on it. The purpose is to see whether it has been altered, properly maintained and to see what they can find.

I wouldn't lose sleep over reasonable alterations that are routinely done, but anything exotic or unusual I would avoid.

want the best advise you will ever hear......dont believe anything online

Just modifiy the damn gun and enjoy it, if your so worried about this fact buy another gun and have a gunsmith go through the trigger and clean it up so its still stock but stock in such a way that it doesnt suck

you cant live your life in fear, although that being said I would not use a match gun with match features as a carry gun, that would be asking for trouble, however the SD hardly looks like a match gun so just go ahead and enjoy the damn thing.

So you are passing on bad advise?

Its not bad advise. Its, sad to say, the truth. It was not that way years ago. Now if some chump comes into your house while you are asleep, with an AK-47, Kills one of your kids, your dog, ties you and your wife up, robs you blind and then trips and breaks his leg on your front step, he has the right to sue you and put you and your wife in jail. Sad to say, its the truth. Aren't you glad for law makers like Hilary and the rest of the Kommies the people you know elected into office.
