In conjunction with the thread on Illegal Street Racing, I thought I'd post the outcome of a recent extreme quest for speed on the public roadways of Germany.

Displeased by his recorded max speed run in a Bugatti, the authorities looked to charge the driver. They determined that all was in order.

Looks like heaven to me!

That's what we call "blowing the soot out of it" down here in the country!

Unfortunately you can't find a stretch of road anywhere around here where the bullet lane is not clogged with slowpokes with a blinker blinking for miles, driving 30 mph under the speed limit!

Soot.... yeah that's it officer. LOL

Fortunately, left lane discipline is excellent there. I was on cruise control at 115 mph in the middle lane, regularly being passed like we were standing still, so guessing that 175mph is not unusual.

Back in the 80s a white flash passed me quick enough I thought it was a jet fighter doing a low level run (sections of the Autobahn are designed to serve as emergency runways). Long story short, a lawyer with offices in Stuttgart and Heidelberg had somehow managed to obtain an Autobahn only license for a

Porsche 917 prototype race car to use for his commute between offices.
