A good movie, but I'm disappointed that Tristan had not read our Bear Gun threads.

But it was a good death.....

A favorite of mine as well Jimmy.
I like the old ranch hand with the Sharps ??? up on the
hillside taking out the bad cop.
Tristan may not have read the Bear threads on here but
he could sure use his knife against the Germans....

I guess I'll have to see it again. I remember having seen it when it came out. The only thing I remember about it was that I was disappointed. I think it was one of those deals where I had unrealisitic expectations based on the rave reviews.

I was sure glad that Tristan didn't try to shoot his old blood kin grizzly with his '73 Winchester. He might have had that "good death" a generation sooner... :)

Also in the book Dekker kills his daughter's murderer with a Winchester Model 54... In the movie he used a Sharp's .50. I like the Sharps, but the 54 would have been cool to see. I collect 54's.

I saw the movie as a first run and catch it on TV whenever I can. It brings to life pretty faithfully the Jim Harrison novella, which is about as good a bit of headlong storytelling as I have read. He tells this saga of the life of an entire family in less than 200 pages, maybe less. It appeared as one of three stories in a single volume.

I particularly like the final scene with Bart the bear (now deceased) "playing" with his trainer Doug Seuss, who was depicting an aged Tristan (Brad Pitt) caught by a surprise Grizzly attack.

I thought it was an excellent movie.
