Last week I requested DOB on a flat latch 3" Pre Model 36 I saw in a pawn shop. I tried to memorize the serial number but obviously got it wrong. I went back today to get the corrected serial number. It is 5481x. It has the factory diamond grips and it is a square butt. Thanks in advance for yur help. Its pretty beat up but mechanically sound.

i'd say about late 1954. 55050 is the first serial number in '55, per scosw.

I don't think an exact list of year/serials is available for the J frames so we have to guess.
