would a lettrt from Mr.Jinks be able to verify a gun was sent to Lew Horton
Because a letter from Horton can not be had now?

To those claiming it makes no difference whether it was shipped through Lew Horton, I beg to differ. Lew Horton is now defunct, making those guns more valuable, not to mention there were a few Lew Horton specials that became "over runs" that never made it to LH which may command a premium for being a rare bird. Take my 29-3 3" Lew Horton overrun, for example. S&W told me it shipped through Lew Horton. Lew Horton told me that it shipped with a Lew Horton product code but did not go to Lew Horton. 5000 went to LH and supposedly there were only 200 overruns of this model. I have yet to be able to verify this.
Your serial number prefix usually indicates a Lew Horton order.
Not certain if they always did though.
If you find someone willing to pay a premium for a LH gun, great. I wouldn’t. To me the fact the distributor is now defunct is inconsequential. Just my .02.
It's fairly inconsequential NOW that they are defunct, maybe, but with time the LH guns will be worth more than if LH had stayed open.

Interesting thread!
Do people add value for other distributors, like Camfour or Davidsons?
What about standard models, does an M66 have greater value if it was sold through a certain distributor?
What about retailers where the guns were sold from?
Wolf and Klar (sp) come to mind but thats sometime ago?
Strangely enough in my NY-1 collecting, I don't consider the overruns as real NYPD guns. They were not sold to or delivered to the NYPD. So to me even though they are generally in better condition, have boxes and things. I still put a lesser value on them.
