Hey, I was at my local gun shop on the way to work tonight. The sales guy showed me a 629-1 3". I could not find it in my smith book, who can teel me what about this nice gun. It has had the original grips stripped off and is in as new condition. Those rubber grips just don't do it justice. I was wondering how many of this configuration were produced and any other info would be greatly appreciated. Needless to say I put it on layaway!!!!

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Sounds great, some guys have all luck...haha, we are waiting for a photo, Congrats
hey are you one of them guys that could fill a stringer with brookies out of a mud puddle ...haha

I don't know a lot about the Lew Horton editions but this may be one of them. My understanding is that they have a different serial number prefix. I'm sure one of the other guys here can fill in the gaps.

if it is a horton edition...u can email them and they can tell you by the serial number...otherwise it's the combat magnum...i have one of these both in 41 and 44 magnum three inch...love em!

Lew Horton had a run of 5,000 made in 1986-87. This was the pre-Performance Center era. These special runs by major distributors is what led to the Performance Center in 1990.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. I've been looking for one of these for the last few years. I have a 657 3" and a 624 3" they have the original grips. I need a set of combats for her that won't break the bank. Anybody out there have any they aren't using. I have a set of smooth K's and many others to trade. I'm looking for a deal that both parties can be happy with try me with what you need.

I can see the outline where the correct grips were on the gun once, but as you know they are a premium item and many times are removed prior to the gun sale. It would have been nice but I'll settle for the gun right now and the grips will come along in due time. I have faith in my gun god.

Does any one know what the prefix would be on the first LH commissioned 629's ?
