Looking for comments on / experiences with tactical lights and lasers used on M&P compact. Just DROS'd a 40c and looking for a light. Also looking for an inexpensive laser for training purposes.

Check out the Streamlight TLR series weapon lights. I have several mounted on handguns and long guns used for home defense, and they work extremely well. There are also models with lasers incorporated into the units as well, though I have not used those models. I have used several Crimson Trace models that mount in the handgun grips, and those that mount in front of the trigger guard. They also work well, but are not inexpensive.

I've got the Viridian C5 light and the Crimson Trace laser grips on my 40c. The CT lasers are so automatic that you don't even have to think about them, and the C5 light is one of the most compact I've seen. Both of them work great.
The Viridian C5 is available with light only or with a laser and light combo. I prefer the light only because I have the CT laser grips.

Try the Streamlight TLR-4G- It is a somewhat compact light/laser with a Green laser. I have the Viridian C5L on my Sig 229 and it is nice but I still prefer the Streamlights and would trade my Viridian for the TLR-4G any day.

The laser is a fantastic training tool. It will help tremendously with trigger control.

I have to ask though, why do you want a light? Mounted lights are good for night competitions and professionals, but less useful for home use. Let me explain...

I thought it would be a good idea to have a pistol mounted light for home defense. This way I could keep both hands on the gun. So, I got a Streamlight TLR-1. Really nice light. Then one night I heard a noise and went to discover what it was. Grabbed the gun and flicked on the light. It was at that moment that it dawned on me that everything I was looking at was also covered by my muzzle. This breaks the second rule of gun safety; don't cover anything with the muzzle you're not willing to destroy. It also highlighted the fact that house clearing should be left to the pros.

In the end I took it off and just keep a flashlight handy.

I'm not trying to change anyone's mind here, just talking out loud.

I keep a tlr-1 mounted to my CZ P01 clone (a Canik Stingray) which happens to be my "nightstand gun". It does what it is suppose to do.

I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I do want to put a laser on my pistol grip shotgun, considering that's something I'd be shooting from the hip.

Lastly, I haven't gotten around to it yet either, but I do want to put a laser on my Ruger LCP since I have the older model with almost nonexistent sights on it. That is NOT an active shooter gun, but more so a gun to use if someone tries to mug you. I think having a laser on that pistol will allow for quicker, more accurate shots, than if I were to use the sights or fire without aiming (again, in a mugging type scenario).

I find green lasers to be better than red lasers, but green generally cost more. Viridian has some of the best lasers, but they also have the highest prices.

Hammerhead64,

This Smith & Wesson 90 lumens weaponlight might work great on your M&P compact, plus the $63.11 + free shipping price tag doesn't break the bank either. Click here for link
