Lipsey's UC 38's, any better now?

I am asking to see if any of you guys that have recently bought one of the ultimate carry 642/442, 38 special models if S&W has now ironed out the issues they have had in the past. I located one locally that is NIB that has a born on date of April 1, 2024, and I am afraid to drive an hour to go look at it and it be a dud, plus the April fools date is funny enough for me to not want it as well! I bought 2 of the 442 guns last year and both of them had sight issues and one had to go back for some work on the action and yoke.

I also located a NIB 642 pro series for about $230.00 less and that is catching my eye too, but I really love the sight and look of the UC though. Any thoughts or recommendations here? Thanks

I looked at a new 642UC at a Cabela's 3 days ago. The front sight looked dead and the yoke was rubbing against the frame right below the barrel in the cylinder window. How did you determine the date of manufacture? Really like features of the UC's also but I want a 442. Cabela's said I can order/buy one and if I don't want it when it comes in they will refund my money. Great policy I think! Would like to check the date of manufacture when it gets in. Are these being made in a limited number?

I just saw the product introduction for a similar new model 640 …. Let’s hope that dosent have the same issues. It’s sure nice looking !
