Has anyone used the above as a solvent for cleaning their guns? On a lark I recently started using it and it seems to do the best job of any chemical I have yet tried. Dissolves carbon like it isn't there and gets under leading and makes it a snap to get out. Does'nt smell nice though. I'm talking about the stuff in the square tin cans with the tiny squirt spout, not the newer aerosols.

I have used it for years on rusted bolts and such. Smells nasty pretty much the same as Kroil. I used a little of that the other day on a stainless revolver and cleaned it again with #9 and still smell it.

It is a penetrating oil,and can and will get into any area of the gun. Some area's where you may not want it. It is Not a lubricant. Kroil is similar, and is helpful in stubborn copper removal from rifle barrels.

Be careful to not get it in area's where it can get down inside the gun. I have heard it can accelerate wear.
