thanks to the help and advice I recieved on the Forum..I've got a load my new 1892 rifle works great with...38 spl brass ,Red Dot 3.5 gr ,158 Cowboy RNFP from Mo bullet, length 1.565"...this is a great shooting rifle, love it, lever guns are fun for sure. it seems like you can rack the lever before the bullet hits a 90 yd. gong! .357's are a little differrent, but still easy to take:D.....tang safety dont really bother me, kinda nice when the kids are shooting

Nice rifle but.........

looking at that first picture........ ( now 2nd )

you might be gripping the stock too hard ? (smile )

Interresting grain structure.

oops, better take pics' down....I started trapshooting after about a 12 year layoff ...my friend who shoots ATA class AA says I need a preshot routine...thats what he has me doing....proper grip-lock your face down-use a soft focus and break the bird...not there yet, but I'm trying!

I would put that 1st picture back up..........
that is a very interresting grain structure that looks like finger prints..........
the only reason that I made my post.

Trap is fun, also.

Hey Ed, I thought you were pointing to the preshot trapshooting list that Doc says I have to practice daily,, that's laying on my bench!...... that's the grain of the wood in the picture...Winchester says Black walnut, straight grain......it is rather unique

The Miroku lever guns are best new lever guns on the market in my opinion. I have a couple in 44 mag, and 357 like yours. Fit and finish is top shelf, and they shoot like a dream. I’ve never had to tinker with mine. For what it’s worth, I’ve found 4227 works much better in the longer barrels of the 1892 than the short barrels of my revolver and use my Miroku guns to drain my 8lbs container.

That's a really nice levergun. I'm a little surprised it works so.well with .38 Special brass. Many leverguns chambered for the .357 Magnum have trouble with the shorter case. You are lucky your gun isn't one of them.

Did you check the velocity numbers for the Red Dot load? You are doing well if you consistently hit a gong @90 yards with iron sights. Way to go sir...

The Winchester /Miroku leverguns are real good rifles. I have three two 1892's and an 1886. They shoot great are are great fun. I have a Rossi somewhat copy 1892 arriving today in fact. Sixteen inch 357. I know it will be rougher but will get that settled with time. Wanted the short one for carrying in the truck and SXS.
I love leverguns great fun and very practical. Most of my shooting is with my own cast bullets which is another fun project.

ArchAngelCD, I agree and I'm glad mine likes the .38 load..it struggles with all my .357 loads (same length and bullet) ?? go figure..bet if I get some TCFP 140gr bullets it will eat them up.but, this .38 load is cheap and fun! may be the short case, heavy bullet, out to 1.560"

I now have a Browning/Miroku 1886 in 45-70 and had a 92 in 44 Mag. Both shoot great, but the more narrow butt plate of the 92 was so bad recoiling, I let a friend talk me out of it!

I have an older Rossi stainless saddle ring 92, for a hunting load I like 13.2 gr of H4227 and a soft point (flat or HP) jacketed 180gr. For Cowboy action or plinking 3.5 WW231/HP-38 and a 158 LSWC or RNFP in 357 case.

Ivan

Try catching the ejected cases from that '92. :D
Enjoy that Winchester!!!

Our Win/Miroku '92 is in 45 Colt at 24"
Have a Win '94 AE 16" in 44 Mag, to go with our 629/4", and while not looking for a Winchester '92 in 357 maybe I'll run into one someday.

I like to use an XF choke in the BT99 and let the birds fly for long shot fun.
