Local Gun Show = Disppointment

Here in the Tulsa area there is a small gun show just about every month, and the Wanenmacher show (world's largest when not shut down by COVID) twice a year. Some years I have gone to every show available but scored only at the huge Wanenmacher shows.

Then again I found great deals at the small show this past December, and again today. Point is, if I hadn't gone I would never have known. Ya pays yer money and ya takes your chances.

Just to emphasize, this is what I found in December:

And this is what I found this weekend:

You never know....

It only takes one good deal to make a gun show. I've been to some in SW MO that were crappers and and some that were really good. Some are small shows and Springfield has a pretty good sized one that's usually OK but not always. I like going to to look and if a deal falls in my lap I buy if I have the funds. Either way they are fun. I've never seen a show that was all jerky and jelly as I've seen described here. Hope I never do.

For me, 25 - 35 years. There is only one decent 'old time' show within driving distance for me and I hope COVID doesn't kill it.

The last decent sized gun show I went to in your general area was at the Monroeville Mall.

I went to the Monroeville show about three years ago, it was a great show for me. But coming from the Cleveland Ohio area, it was a 3 hour drive. Traffic in the area was heavy and parking was terrible because of the long walk from the parking spot to the show entrance. I wish the traffic and parking were different as I'd like to go to it again.
I've heard good things about the Washington PA show but never been to it.

Haven't been to a gun show in years due to always a waste of time here in Sunshine State

If you come in on the turnpike and go west on Rt.22 it should not have been bad to get to the mall. last time I was there, we parked next to the building where the gun show was housed.

I too, have heard the gun show in Washington, Pa. was good. Just off U.S.79.

Where are you at? We have several good shows in this area Vero Beach/Melbourne area. The Lakeland show is usually very good. Sometimes we find deals and sometimes we do not. It is luck of the draw. The last couple of gun shows here in Sebastian, I found several somethings to buy. Also stuff was purchased at the Melbourne show.

OP
did you attend the one at Franklin cnty Fairgrouds , or the Westland Mall?

I did have plans to get over to the fairgrounds (10 mins away) but the boss gave me a "honey-do" list

I forgot about the Gun Show in Huntsville this weekend , I attended one few years ago and wasn't impressed.

You did not miss anything. I had not been to a show in over a year and a friend convinced me to go Saturday. mostly dealers, not much of the old private stock, looking for an over/under for my son and found only one total in the show, being a 28 gage from Turkey. Almost no old 22 rimfires, I though that odd. Very few S&W, just a few scatted with the other guns, no one there with a "collection". Ammo prices out the top, no reloading supplies. Odd type show from the ones "before covid". We left early, you could not walk for the number of people in attendance. I wish I had stayed home.

An FFL I knew, who had a table at a few Virginia gun shows, sold most of my revolvers, rifles and ammo for me a couple of years ago, it took him a couple of months and I guess he did all the paperwork. Given todays shortages of everything and the prices they are getting now I probably should have kept my small collection, guess a little sellers remorse, but it is a PITA to sell everything individually.

The ones in NEPA were always lousy IMHO.

I stopped going to them years ago.

I went to one at the NY State Fairgrounds in Syracuse in 1997. I saw stuff I never saw before or since. Plus they served beer. I remember telling my buddy all they need to add are strippers and it's a Trifecta.

I went to the Spec Ops show in Hilliard....I like the way Spec Ops runs these shows which tend to be smaller but I can usually find a hidden gem or two.

A friend went to the Westland Mall show and reported similar results. He's looking at AR-types and found prices ~30-50% higher than a year ago and $40-50/box handgun ammo. He called it a waste of his time.

Everything is a lot higher than a year ago. The question is how much higher will it go?

I went to the Westland Mall show about 5 years ago, first AND last time. I went to a show at the State of Ohio fairgrounds about 10 years ago, ended up being a small show and for that one never went back again. The Mansfield show is a good one, I try to get to that one at least once a year. The Lima show is a good one but has been out of operation due to Covid.

I Used to attend the OGCA in the early to mid 90's when I lived in the area (Brookpark) I live close to Monroeville so I attend that one and PGCA in Butler (Pre Covid) the Washington show is also a nice one and you can visit the Trolley Museaum when your there. Miss the shows but not the smells if you know what I mean

I would have to go out of state to get to a decent show at the moment. Our state is pretty locked down, and Arizona has a COVID rate close to off the scale, so it's online auctions or nothing right now.
