It has been a while since I have seen firearms for sale at my local Wal-Mart. They still carry ammo but no guns. On my last visit, the outdoor manager told me they will be getting a gun counter back. Say what you will about Wal-Mart, I think this is step in the right direction.

It's been a good decade since my Walmart sold guns.Up at my sisters place Walmart sells reloading supplies(and guns).Walmart is about profits. If you're rural enough, they will sell you guns and such,if not, they won't.They aren't about to be accused of supplying guns and ammo to gang bangers and such. These people aren't stupid.

Our local W-M has resumed long gun sales. They had stopped about five (5) years ago, no idea why the change but glad they did.

I agree. From a fishing perspective I see they know the market. Every store has gear and lures for each area. While I try to avoid big box stores, I will take Wal-Mart over Target any day.

Anyone know what brands they will be selling ? WM in the past is known for squeezing suppliers to dumb down/make cheaper versions of product I'm just curious if that will happen with the long guns ?

i'm with dirty harry here...our wally world, in nw PA, never stopped selling long guns...in the last few months, i have even seen the scary black rifles there...they had never carried them until recently...

as far as brands go, i've seen remington, mossberg, ruger, winchester, and a few that made me say "hmmm" as i had never heard of them...

nearest WM doesn't sell guns, just ammo. one out the road 8 miles sells long guns and ammo. a buddie just got 3 bricks of rem/525 rds. for $22 at the one 2 miles from the house.

As far as brands my local WM has Ruger, Marlin, Remington, Moosberg, Rossi, Savage, and those scary Colt EBRs

A while back the Walmarts around hear dropped all guns and put "for sale" signs on their expensive glass, revolving long-gun display cases. I didn't think I would ever see a gun in a Walmart again. Then about a year later they installed new simple glass, gun display racks and they have several ARs from Colts and Wyndams to DPMS. Bolt guns are Mossbergs, Savage, and Remington 700 ADL and BDL. Rimfire rifles are Ruger 10/22s, Crickets, and Henry lever-actions. What is curious to me is why they have Mossberg riot guns with the jagged door breaching thing on the muzzle and the Rossi revolving 45/.410 rifle/shotgun. I guess those are more popular than I thought.

All the Wal-Marts in the greater Richmond area have a solid selection of about 10 muzzleloaders. I can't remember when they stopped selling centerfire rifles or what their selection used to be like

Our local Wal-Mart has been selling long guns since they opened their doors here about 10 years ago. about 5 years ago we had a guy killed 3 or 4 teenagers and wounded several more. Some of us gun owners thought Wal-Mart would stop selling gun after that. The case was kind of confusing, the guy doing the shooting was in Wisconsin and killing kids in Michigan. The kids were swimming in the Menominee River and jumping off the railroad bridge.

It seems that Wal Mart is selling just about all the major brands of long guns.

FWIW I bought a Ruger 10/22 from WM years ago. It seemed to be exactly the same quality as the ones in our LGS. Additionally, it was a model that was never available at our LGS - silver action, laminated full length stock, with a fancy logo strap.

Only 1-2 WMs in my area sell guns--no Pistolen, but sell rifles. Not much a selection but better than nothing. That said, no guns from WM for me, I have all the sources needed to get what I want/need.

They stop selling long guns here when the Target CEO took over, you know when they started looking like Target. When he was left go or whatever they resumed selling long guns lots of AR's now. If only .22 ammo will make a come back, last time they had any was during the SB the salesman told me.The other WM's farther from MD never stopped selling long guns.

Lot's of WM's will let you order from the catalog they have behind the counter.

Walmarts in Philly don't sell any ammo or firearms. I can get ammo in the suburbs, but most of them don't sell firearms either. I believe there is at least one Walmart in Western PA that sells long guns, but don't quote me on that.

A couple of years ago I traveled thru Anchorage on the way to Homer for a few days of halibut fishing. I needed a pair of boots so we stopped into the local Walmart for a pair. After choosing the boots, I wandered over to the sporting goods dept. & was surprised to see a HUGE display case full of pistols & revolvers. The clerk told me that this was the only Walmart that sold handguns. Seeing it was Alaska & many folks carry as a matter of survival up there, I understand this was probably a corporate decision to remain competitive in the market place. It really was a surprise to see such a large selection.

The one closest to me carries Remington, Savage, Ruger, Henry, Marlin, and (Colt, SIG, and DPMS AR-15 rifles).
Also carries Remington and Mossberg shotguns and they always have.

Good selection of ammo but have'nt had .22's for awhile as the same
knotheads follow the trucks to the unloading docks every morning and buy all they get in to resell.
