Maybe it was Karma but I just went out to vote in our Texas Primaries and stopped at the Walmart near the Town Hall.

They have lifted the 3 box limit, had a pretty full case of everything BUT .22LR (had some shotshell .22).

Here was my take. I left much more behind!!!!

After a person's complete disappointment after one first box of .22 shotshell, does anybody actually buy another?

I sure didn't. I was better off sticking to my single shot Crossman Mark II CO2 pistol using BBs against the starling invasion we were having...

Still limited at all WMs here--3 box limit--zip for any 22 on the shelves. Academy is better w/ no limit on anything but 22. Just picked up 100 rounds of that Mexican made 22-since the cheaper stuff sold out immediately.

My dad and I used some .22 shot on a large black snake in his basement . This was in his .22 CZ Kadet, manual cycle .

After that I bought him some .38 shot for his Model 19 (had to link to something S&W related ) :)

I'm just hoping this is good news for supply in general. Walmart DEFINITELY knows supply chains and they must be pretty confident. I am seeing a lot more of the Federal 100 boxes in 9, 40, and 45 recently as well as the 100's of JHP UMC, same calibers. I've received some "vivid" remarks on this, but I like this JHP UMC for SD and the YouTube reviews are promising. At this price, I can afford to practice with it!!

Now if I only had a Walmart that sold reloading supplies nearby :)

You're East TX????????

.22 LR shotshells? They were used at Camp Benjamin Hawkins which was the Boy Scout summer camp I attended. The rifle range was a daily joy. My brother and I spent lots of our free time there shooting targets w/ the rifles and shooting smooth bore Remington .22 LR bolt-action "shotguns" using the little shotshells to to hit some sort of skeet type target. If we'd had more money, we'd have shot more of the skeet targets. As it was, we shot the regular bullseye targets because we could afford to shoot more.

Lady Koz was at WM yesterday and sent me a text asking if I wanted any 9mm or .22lr (she rocks). I told her to grab whatever .22 they'd sell her. She got (3) 50 rd. boxes of Blazers for $2.47 each. I told her that was a nice score, but in the back of my mind I was thinking that a few years ago the store shelves were stocked full of Blazer 550ct. bricks for 5 to 7 bucks!

I usually stop at GM at 7:50 on Saturday mornings on my way to work. They open at 8 and I'll stand in line for a few minutes with a cup of coffee 'til they open the doors. I usually find something to buy and they have routinely had .22s available. Last Saturday morning I got a brick of 22lr and 350 rounds of .380 for $138 out the door. Today they came to the door and said they had no .22lr, so I never even went inside.

I can generally find anything I want/need, but .22lr in quantity is still somewhat frustrating.

Re: JHP UMC. I've used it in .40 S&W and .45 ACP. I've also used the Winchester 230 gr. JHP's. It is not the latest boutique load to hit the market. It is not bonded, certified by the dea/fbi/etc. It may not shoot through car doors and car windshields, etc. But, I don't know. It has poked nice holes in everything I've ever shot with it. It has fed in every semi-auto pistol I've ever used it in. And shooting watermelons and such stuff it produces lots of "salad." And, POI is POA with my handguns sighted to use the more hot shot loads available. What's not to like.

If the sad and sorry day ever comes that practice must ever be put to real-life use, it will probably do exactly what it always has done. Now, if it must first go through multiple layers of denim fabric and then penetrate say three inches ballistic gel and then produce a nice mushroom and penetrate say another ten inches and then come to a full stop w/o exiting, well, it may not do all that. But, I have never seen anyone wearing a couple or more layers of denim material. Usually a pair of pants or a jacket is about it for the denim. And as to penetration, most folks don't run in the 250-300 lb. range. Lots of folks are just runts... maybe 180 lbs. or so. The fbi will probably disagree. But then, they have to think of things like car doors, windshields and ... maybe even refrigerators. Those sorts of things require more punch. Maybe if they had to buy ammo the same way the tax payer buys ammo, they'd be less inclined to buy the latest boutique loads?

smokindog if you don't mind my asking, what does a box of 100 .40 sell for at Walmart? They do not show pricing - In store only indicator.

My thoughts exactly. Unfortunately, it's the way of the public sector anymore for almost anything.

BTW, look through YouTube for some of the ballistic tests on this stuff. It performs well.

Around here its about 45 or so a box. I saw a 250 pack of UMC 40 cal at my local wally for 99 bucks.

Usually dont go to wally for ammo but that seems like a fair price for 100 packs. We have better stocked options in the area thankfully. I travel weekly so I get the chance to "stop by" a lot of stores to "see what they got" and snag a box of this or that.
I have hit a few fresh stocked stores LOL!

Did you notice the UMC were JHP?

The WMs here, ive seen only once--a 100 rd .40 box, but I did see a large bulk box of .45 a few days ago. Its a tad under $100.00 so im ASSUMING its at least 200-250 rounds? and its the UMC kind. I didnt get a chance to look longer as I was in a hurry--bought a 100 rd box of Winchester 9mm at that time.

i think this policy with the one box limit is nationwide. it's the same over here.

Seeing more 45 & 40 around here. 9 is still hit and miss, but very findable. 22 still very hard to find and sells out instantly when it shows up.

The yellow box UMCs are FMJ and 250 rounds. They've been showing up as well in the same 3 calibers mentioned. Not a bad deal but I'd only buy if in short supply. I've passed on them a number of times and waited for the Federals :)
