Long barrel love!

So my "new" to me 686-5 up top, and my dads 617 no dash on bottom..both with 8-3/8" barrels. I always remember shooting his growing up and called it his "Dirty Harry gun" even though its got a longer barrel and obviously smaller caliber. Still one of my favorites of his.
I looked his pistol up to see what they were going for, needless to say he was shocked how much it had gone up in value.

They do appreciate, M617s in particular, but mostly classic S&W revolvers hold their value. The price goes up, while the value remains basically the same. The lion's share of the price increase you see is due to inflation. Today a dollar buys a lot less than it did in the '80s, and a Model 617 is a perfect example of that.

There ya go...almost a cane!

There was a DW Pistol Pack I saw that someone had a custom barrel made. Full underlug 15" barrel with the standard assortment.

I love long barrel revolvers for range and long range plinking shooting. The look cool too.

My long 586

617 no dash which is a real favorite shooter and a 686-1M which I unfortunately had to sell a while back.

The Long Tom 27-2 (yeah, its older than 1980)

Ruger and Colt get to play long arm too.
