I was home 1946 for a few weeks before 1 went to Africa. -- Colt would never make the SAA again & I wanted a nice one. I took an average $15 one, bought a new Colt barrel & cylinder from Dixie Gun Works for about $7.50 each & sent to a Texas restorer. It became a sight to behold - to me anyhow, just what I wanted. I left & went out in the world.

My Dad was obsessed with long steer horns. After his renter burned his restaurant, he rebuilt & named it the 'Longhorn Grill' with a huge steerhead longhorn neon sign.

Back again in 1949 Dad had made a great trade for me, my cherished SAA for a pair of steer horns, almost 7 foot, worth $350; what he'd always wanted. I just gritted my teeth & complimented him. Not bad as it might have been, I had gathered a few guns in my travels in Europe.

My Daughter has the steerhorns, still IMO worth about the same $350 ----->

Good grief!!! Just like the poster on your Ivory thread said....you need to gather some of your stories together into a book...I'll be the first one in line to buy one. Don't forget lots of photographs!!! What a great life you've led, and thanks for sharing some of it with us.

Happy New Year!!

Best Regards, Les
